I don't take either. I pay a lot of taxes, so don't ask me. I'm just responding to the OP -- that wouldn't be enough to live on. I'd need that plus food stamps to be able to live. And I still wouldn't do it. I have a nice job, no way in hell I'm giving it up to live in poverty.

By the way, if you guys think living in poverty is such a great life, why don't you quit your jobs and do it?

But the government loves to give people things that they didn't earn with our money... might as well get something.

I do. I got a public education. I have decent public roads. I have public sewer and water. I have relatively clean air and clean water on tap. I have an economy that's relatively stable due to relatively sane regulation. I went to a public college to learn my trade. I have a safe neighborhood due to the public policing. I'm sitting here right now eating food that tells me exactly what's in it, and is safe, due to public food safety laws.

But, most importantly, I make a very good income in information technology. Specifically, the public Internet. Without a population that's educated enough to read and write, the whole thing would be useless and I'd be bagging groceries. I'd be riding my horse to my job bagging groceries at the general store, and probably keeping a shotgun handy in case robbers come. That's if I wasn't too sick to get to work because I drank bad well water.

Would you really want to live on such low income? What would you do with all that spare time you have? With no car, no insurance, no money, living in a dangerous ghetto, what would you do? I mean, aside from frantically searching for a job to get the hell out of that life.

    I know I wouldn't, how about you?
Meh, that's about as much as I made as a grad student (even a bit more). Perhaps not the worst thing ever. But I like the ability to buy extra stuffs, so likely not.

Why would I have to move out of my house?

$25k per year is plenty of money to have a decent car+insurance+a decent place to live. It's no surprise that a limousine liberal such as yourself has now idea how to live well with a $25k budget.
