The links below make an excellent point, the writing is on the wall and the question is going to be soon, not which state will be next to grant equal rights but what will be the last state to grant it and give same-sex marriages.

These are the 18 states left that dont have legislation written/being written and or court cases in the works to fight for equal rights.

Gay Marriage, Civil unions and domestic partnerships banned
Idaho
Nebraska
South Dakota

The guesses by the video above and articles below are guessing Alabama and Mississippi.

My pick is Mississippi since not to long ago people tried to bring legislation back to ban interracial marriage.

Theres more states than there are poll options so i picked the 9 most likely based on history and put an "other" spot for write in.

Heres what the rest of the country looks like

14 states and DC have equal rights:

California
Connecticut
Delaware
Iowa
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
Minnesota
New Hampshire
New York
New Jersey
Rhode Island
Vermont
Washington

18 more are in various stages of fighting or establishing a fight for equal rights

New Mexico – is granting equal rights for now and the SSC is going to decided on this soon

Court Case(s) in the works to establish equal rights:
Arkansas
Kentucky
Michigan
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Utah
Virginia

Court Case(s) and Legislation in the works, which ever wins first:
Arizona
Hawaii
Illinois
Nevada
Ohio

Legislation in the works:
Colorado
Florida
Oregon

thats 32 states

I hope it is ours but it will probably be Alabama

The last state to ratify the 21st amendment..

South Carolina. Easy the most backwards messed up state in the union.

North Dakota seems curiously absent.

Alabama or Mississippi though I am leaning more towards Mississippi.

Washington State will be the last.

While i do agree there are many things backwards about it, it already has court cases in the works.

very good catch it should have been under Gay Marriage and Civil unions banned

seems i got an overlap or something somewhere ill have to figure it out before i post that list again

Washington State will be the last.

are you really this uneducated about this topic?

Washington has had equal rights for gays for almost a year now.
It was one of the states the PEOPLE actually voted for it

Need to make a correction, doubled up on a state and left North Dakota off, good catch Fiddytree!
I doubled up on Kentucky, they actually have a court case in the works.

heres the current picture

thats makes 32 that have or are in the possible progress to have equal rights

This leaves 18 that are still discriminating and have nothing currently in the works

North Carolina is vying for that position of late.

Nothing can top a state that has had problems losing it's governor and not being able to find him. Wonder what ever happened to that guy...

While that's certainly pretty dysfunctional, North Carolina is having more luck making its unemployed as miserable as possible. And then there's new restrictive laws against abortion (although that's sort of par for the course for red states these days) and don't forget them trying to make Christianity the state religion.

I had family there for years, luckily they had the money to move and jopbs to go with the move. They got out.

I half-wonder if some states will NEVER legalize it.

But then, I suppose they would technically be the last...:2razz:

well this is actually what i think will happen, i think a hand full of states never will like with slavery, interracial marriage and womans rights and then SCOTUS will make a ruling and they will have to grant equal rights.

This is what I think will happen. I think that the only thing that kept the Supreme Court from going further than they did when they struck down DOMA was political support. They didn't want to be seen as legislating from the bench on such a divisive and major issue. I believe that once most states and even more Americans support gay marriage, the Supreme Court will rule in favor of it.

hmmm very possible

I just "assumed and guessed" they didnt rule on it because they simply didnt have to, the cases werent set up for a direct ruling so they took the easyway out

im thinking that very soon, 3 years max a case will be a direct case and force the issue.

already have 4 State Supreme courts rule on it and theres potential for like 3 more in the next year and many other lower court rulings

regardless equal rights is coming

LOL in some of those states you can marry your cousin

How can you be both pro human and pro choice if pro choice involves killing a human or a soon to be embryo that'll turn into an unborn human?

How can you be both pro human and pro choice if pro choice involves killing a human or a soon to be embryo that'll turn into an unborn human?

thats easy if you understand the facts and reality of the situation

in the abortion debate there are TWO lives and no pro-choice/abortion does not involve killing a human, it involves choice and respecting rights

does the womans human rights not count to you?

im pro choice because its the ONLY FACTUAL way to "TRY" and respect BOTH lives unless of course you have a way to ban abortion and not violate a womans current legal and human rights including her right to life.

IF you can do that im on board!!!
