Simple question. Do you lie? How often? And why or why not?

Personally, I try not to as much as possible, but I do find myself telling white lies occasionally, mostly because it's a situation where lying is a lot less complicated and easier to explain than telling the truth.

I find it is too destructive, when you are found out. Game theory explains why.

Funny is that it does not seem to work like that in politics. Probably something to do with the in-transparency and cost of information and information processing.

I was going to select that I never lie but that would not have been completely honest. I never lie about matter of substance but I will occasionally tell a white lie. An example of this would be if a woman that looked ridiculous in a particular outfit and she asked me if I liked her new dress I might shrug and say that it was ok or looked good, ect.

l do if İ feel threatened

I lie very rarely - I'm getting old and lying is hard work. Much easier to tell the truth, and as you get older you can cross the line with honesty more than ever.

In general, I won't lie about anything that will cause harm to someone else, ever. Sometimes, I'll lie about something that will only hurt me - example, if someone asks if I want that last piece of cake, I'll say no, even though I want it, because I know they want it too - the lie only hurts me. I've known people who would say yes, they want the last piece of cake, even when they didn't, because they wanted to keep it from the other person - that's a lie that hurts the other person, something I don't do. That's a simplistic example, but I think it makes the point.

I lie sometimes but mostly just white lies. For instance, if my brother asks me if I drank his cola, I say no... when in fact, I did or I threw it down the drain. But that's because he drinks too much cola.

I don't see stretching the truth a little to make life easier for those that we love as lying.

Anyone who sees that another way has my permission to **** off.

Lying is the best way to win arguments. I'm even lying about lying.

In the end, being truthful is easier. And lying begats lying. I say this because one of my siblings is a pathological liar and has been lifelong. What happens eventually is that the lines between fact and fantasy become so blurred that the liar can't distinguish between them.

In answer to your question, I have told six little white lies since 1982. They were all stupid and beyond trivial, and I am heartily sorry for them all.

Nah, I don't lie, for the most part, because I don't want to get caught in the lie simply because I forgot what the truth was. Who was it, Mark Twain that said that if you tell the truth, you'll never have to remember anything? That's the way I look at it. I don't want to have to scramble, trying to remember what I told somebody. If I always tell them the truth, it's a non-issue.

That being said, if my friend comes up and asks me if this dress makes her look fat, I'm going to say, "No, it looks great on you!" or "No that haircut is fabulous!" No need to deliberately hurt anyone.

I lie constantly . Sometimes I say yes that is so very interesting . I even tell people how much I care if they ask and expect a answer .

In my personal life, I lie very rarely for two primary reasons:

1. Keep secrets (presents, parties, and other such surprises)
2. "Sir. do yo know how fast you were going/ did you see the posted speed limit?"
I don't believe there is any harm in lying about a victimless crime, hasn't happened in a while though.

At work, I'd say I have to lie more frequently, due to the fact that some of the information I receive is not to be repeated. So in that case, I don't know if it's so much a lie as a denial of knowledge, but when someone asks if I've heard about something and I say no, I consider that a lie.

I think we all lie a lot more than most of us are willing to admit. Studies prove it.

This is worth a listen.

All the time--this sentence is a lie.

The one thing I do lie about frequently is when you run into people like at work or on the street and are like "Hi, how are you?" ( I hate when people ask that) It's so much easier to just say "good" than really tell the truth that you are having a bad day, woke up late, saw the dog puked all over the living room, babygirl had major attitude about putting on a freaking jacket, had to rush to get to work in the rain, spilled coffee all over my pants, and just generally in a bad mood so leave me the hell alone because you really don't care how I am.

I generally tell the truth unless there's some real reason not to. It's usually easier and, frankly, anyone who can't deal with the truth probably doesn't deserve much respect anyhow.

Well, I'd like to say I never lie, but that would be a lie.

Everybody lies. Some much more than others. Some for convenience. Some for their own comfort. Some because they want to embellish for their own aggrandizement. Some to hide their behavior. And more.

Hard to live a peaceful life and never lie. She does look fat in those pants may not be the best policy. ;)

I do occasionally.

Please, make the same poll about politicians. Do politicians lie? Oops, I know the answer to that one.

The lower down on the poll people vote, the more I believe they are telling the truth.

We all lie constantly in little ways. Just imagine what would happen if we didn't?
