Lying is the best way to win arguments. I'm even lying about lying.

Personally, I try not to as much as possible, but I do find myself telling white lies occasionally, mostly because it's a situation where lying is a lot less complicated and easier to explain than telling the truth.
In the end, being truthful is easier. And lying begats lying. I say this because one of my siblings is a pathological liar and has been lifelong. What happens eventually is that the lines between fact and fantasy become so blurred that the liar can't distinguish between them.

In answer to your question, I have told six little white lies since 1982. They were all stupid and beyond trivial, and I am heartily sorry for them all.

    Re: Do you lie?

Nah, I don't lie, for the most part, because I don't want to get caught in the lie simply because I forgot what the truth was. Who was it, Mark Twain that said that if you tell the truth, you'll never have to remember anything? That's the way I look at it. I don't want to have to scramble, trying to remember what I told somebody. If I always tell them the truth, it's a non-issue.

That being said, if my friend comes up and asks me if this dress makes her look fat, I'm going to say, "No, it looks great on you!" or "No that haircut is fabulous!" No need to deliberately hurt anyone.

In my personal life, I lie very rarely for two primary reasons:

    1. Keep secrets (presents, parties, and other such surprises)
    2. "Sir. do yo know how fast you were going/ did you see the posted speed limit?"
I don't believe there is any harm in lying about a victimless crime, hasn't happened in a while though.

At work, I'd say I have to lie more frequently, due to the fact that some of the information I receive is not to be repeated. So in that case, I don't know if it's so much a lie as a denial of knowledge, but when someone asks if I've heard about something and I say no, I consider that a lie.

I think we all lie a lot more than most of us are willing to admit. Studies prove it.

    This is worth a listen.

    Re: Do you lie?

The one thing I do lie about frequently is when you run into people like at work or on the street and are like "Hi, how are you?" ( I hate when people ask that) It's so much easier to just say "good" than really tell the truth that you are having a bad day, woke up late, saw the dog puked all over the living room, babygirl had major attitude about putting on a freaking jacket, had to rush to get to work in the rain, spilled coffee all over my pants, and just generally in a bad mood so leave me the hell alone because you really don't care how I am.
I call my own shots, largely based on an accumulation of data, and everyone knows it.
