I would oppose it.Government is supposed to take a neutral stance on religion just like the first part of the 1st amendment says.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    Cicero Marcus Tullius

Isn't the American system of government buggered up enough without tossing religion into the mix?

Also note: this thread isnt to bash Christianity itself or used to make a blanket judgment about it. Im one myself and of course i would never support such insane nonsense. Save that for something else.

Re: Would you vote for Christianity to be the official religion of the United States?

Well, I am a Christian... I like to think a reasonably devout one... and I am not really that keen on the idea.

Now, even though making Christianity the state religion, either in a state or in the US, would not necessarily institute a theocracy or mean anyone would be MADE to practice it... it would just mean it was the "official" religion like C of E is in England... even so I don't know that it is such a hot idea.

Typically the mixing of religion and government has resulted in corruption of the religion.

Then there's the details and implications. Is this declaration of state religion merely nominal (in name only), or will there be legal or legislative implications?

A very important factor in my own Christian beliefs is that one must choose it freely; to have it imposed by force renders it meaningless hypocrisy.

So, as I said... not all that keen on the idea.

No, but neither do I support the notion that religious people be precluded from politics or precluded from using their religion to inform their politics.
