I think the idea should be put on the auction block, treat it like naming a stadium or arena. Get bids from all the world's religions and see who wants it most. Who knows- Tibetan prayer flags might dress up the halls of Congress nicely. The stripes on the flag replaced with a gold crescent on a green background might look sharp. How about a Star of David on every dollar bill?

It just seems like a question that's somewhat outside of the mainstream is all. While you're bound to get a couple fruitcakes now and again who would seriously suggest such a thing, it's so fringe that the debate hasn't entered the public arena in any way.

You may as well start a poll titled "Would you support a bill legalizing nun-beating?"

Except that the poll he linked shows 32% in favor or strongly in favor. That's more than "a couple fruitcakes." Of course, i have not heard of any amendment attempt that came close, but there certainly is still a large amount of religious intrusion into our laws, to this day.

No religion should be official in any country. Religion has no place in government officially.

I really doubt anyone, no matter how religious, who has a good understanding of the Constitution, how our system of government works, and the dangers of mixing ONE religion with that government would day anything other than "absolutely not". I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish by this poll, J.

Why would a country need an official religion? What possible benefit would that serve other than to disenfranchise people who weren't of that religion?
