Growing your own garden seems to be fashionable again, so maybe that's in store for those who could have never imagined themselves doing it before? Perhaps...

but I don't know how.

but I don't know how.

Suggest you ask someone who gardens...they'll talk till you fall asleep on your feet! Better yet, get a book from the library. And there are enough gardeners on here to ask specific questions...

Now how do we actually accomplish it?
Stop looking to government as your god to provide for all your needs. Stop voting yourselves money.

Demand personal responsibility of all citizens

Get government out of the way of business. Stop allowing us to be a nation of regulations so to promote an atmosphere where jobs are created resulting in less people on the dole and more paying taxes.

Stop the corporate welfare. Let businesses rise or fail on their own

Pass a balanced budget Amendment

Sorry. The majority have already spoken. I will let the data stand alone.

I'm fine with all of those. Now how do we actually accomplish those, considering neither of the major parties support any of those ideas?

What are the best options for solving the national debt problem if we ever see our self in a disaster scenario?

Bankruptcy? hyperinflation? less government spending? higher taxes? Something more creative that nobody has thought of?

I'm sure somebody has a good idea. Let's pretend doomsday is here. What do we do? Print money like a mad man? File for bankruptcy? Stop social security checks? Fire 75% of all federal employees? Go door to door collect taxes?

What ever shall we do? Oh my!

You left out the option of what I would do if I was in charge of America - gather the criminals who claim America owes them money and put them in labor camps until they die. problem solved. the ignorance level is stunning and insulting.

Explain who would lend money to US government for it's operations in Iraq/Syria/Afghanistan etc. - CRIMINALS, that's who. criminals such as those who control the puppets in Saudi Arabia who sent death row inmates to fight people in Syria, who behead not only innocent civilians but even each other, and eat people's organs. so you can make your shocked faces, but it only shows ignorance to reality. there is nothing shocking about what I said at all. shocking is American people's ignorance.

Personally I think we should stop sending money out to places like Pakistan and Egypt and instead keep it here to start paying off a bit of the debt.

Evening Cephus,
Well....before we could even discuss major parties, there would have to be a change of heart with the voters who would be willing to send fiscally conservative representation to Washington and to hold them accountable. It would mean a citizenry willing to become more involved and informed. The goal should be to shrink the size of Federal government by unraveling decades of collectivism and returning to the states their constitutional responsibilities.

My suggestion for reining in corporate welfare since these programs transcend government agencies is maybe set up a commission that would research and list every corporation, business including wealthy farmers that are currently receiving subsidies and give it to Congress. Halt any new research grants. There is no good reason why the taxpayers should be paying for research for the fat cats. If they want to remain competitive in a global market, then they need to spend their own funds to do so. This type of special selection of certain companies is very wrong of our government and creates an unfair playing field. After the commission completed the list Congress should vote up or down on each one. I think this is one area where the left and the right are in agreement and could significantly cut our trillion dollar deficit we have been running for a few years.

As far as welfare programs go, it's time for the Federal government return these duties to the states. The Federal government produces one size fits all programs for all people and they are inefficient. States should be allowed to set up their own system as they best know where the money is needed and would be better equipped to cut fraud and waste. Something the Federal government has failed miserably. The needs of North Dakota are not the same needs of Alabama and so on. The Federal government could first start off with issuing block grants to each state to set up their own systems. There are currently 129 programs for low income people run at the federal level. If some states want to set up massive welfare programs, then let the good people of those states pay for them with their state taxes.

And my last suggestion is to shut down the Department of Education. It's a major failure. This too needs to be a state responsibility. I always look at states as being test kitchens trying out new recipes. After a year or two each state will be examining the success of others and those with good marks will be the examples others could consider on improving their own.
