What about the legally ignorant? Lots of that goin' 'round. Legally blind. Legally ignorant. Blind and ignorant is OK for a gun. I must be delusional. I thought I said blind and ignorant can carry a gun. Good thing I didn't say blonde.

I don't think anyone should be allowed to carry a gun unless they have been qualified to do so. I personally might, or might not, be able to see the qualifying target and hit it. Or I might not. Simple to determine really.
I am also legally blind, and I could also hit a body mass. If the target was too far away, I'd be smart enough to simply not fire.

The only thing that concerns me is you can't see what is 50 feet behind your intended target.

"According to Prof. David Kopel of the University of Denver's Strum School of Law, in the past 25 years, 42 states have made similar alterations to their laws, changing the language to state that a sheriff "shall issue" (instead of "may issue") firearm permits to applicants without a felony record. According to Aaron Dorr, executive director of Iowa Gun Owners, sheriffs may reject a permit application based on the applicant's behavior in the previous two years.
"We don't think being legally blind is a behavior," Dorr says"

True story: my ex-wife had a college friend who worked in Sen. Kent Conrad's office. He was lobbied by the "Blind Truckers Association." If that don't scare you, nothing will.

Yeah - why in hell would we not want a person who cannot see who or at what they may be firing at to not want to carry a gun?

Just when you think the bottom of the barrel has been hit you discover that extremists are rapidly using power machinery to dig a new subbasement under that same barrel.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

because not everyone who is legally blind cannot see who or what they may be firing at. that's why I said it should be handled on a case by case basis instead of just a blanket ban on everyone who is "legally" blind.
