I pulled a switcheroo from my usual seriousness and said yes. Get Obama involved in this decision. He is clearly a sports-savvy president, and it's not like anything else he's doing with his time is doing us much good. Plus he's multi-racial, which clearly qualifies him to make a judgment about what qualifies as offensive.

I say we give the president full authority to change the name of this football team to anything of his choosing.

    Up for consideration:
    - The Washington Lobbyists
    - The Washington Demand-Side Economists
    - The Washington Altruists
    - The Washington Yesmen

No, and neither does he. The questioner thought it was, though.

Sorry but to the majority, Venue IS the standard.
I think you're mixing up the concept of a professional President and a professional politician (understandable since the politicians have long conflated the two). The professional politician does indeed do (or not do) whatever is required to get elected. A professional President does what is right regardless of electability.

I don't think you've had a professional President in my lifetime (not that our Prime Ministers have been any better).

I don't understand the mindset that freaks out about these tiny, negligible non issues. Who cares what Obama's opinion is on the team name for the Redskins? Who cares how many rounds of gold he plays a month? If you want to criticize Obama, stick to things that matter.
Apparently one of the most active and vocal groups cares because they have taken President Obama's opinion as a catalyst for a renewed effort. They view it as an endorsement of their position and are attempting to exploit it to their advantage. THIS is exactly why a sitting President should be cautious when expressing opinions on non-government and non-official mattrers, even when/if asked directly.
If you claim sexual harassment to be wrong, yet you defend anyone on your side for any reason,
then you are a hypocrite and everything you say on the matter is just babble.
