What makes human trafficking attractive is the fact that you can force somebody to work for free while making a profit.
What gives you the impression that it would be more expensive? Also, if it was, don't you think some people would pay extra for legality? Not to mention, if the legal ones would probably be tested, and less likely to unknowingly leave you a present. Overall, I think the legality, even with higher prices would cut into profits for those doing it illegally.

Wallace Idaho had a legal Bordello running until 1988 that was safe for the girls and the customers alike. The Madam donated money to buy the HS football team new uniforms and various other good works around town. There was no crime associated with it and no pimps and no problems at all until the feds in their infinite wisdom decided one day in 1988 that the prostitution and gambling in the bars had to be stopped. They swept into town and started arresting bar owners and generally acting like the Gestapo so now people go to down town Spokane to deal with pimps and crack whores and get mugged in the process as often as not.

Actually, I would say Germany is comparable. Of course, I don't know much about their immigration system.

Ah, so you mean our great American society where people would rather torrent than pay for $1.99 DVDs and $0.99 songs, and you can go into any inner city and find millions of stolen items of clothing, and sweatshops in modern day NYC, and Mexican slaves cleaning houses from Texas to California will make it undesirable for women to be trafficked? Surely you jest madam.

    1. Guy puts out an ad looking for girls who want to work as secretaries in X country.
    2. Girls reply to the ad, they are provided with visa (insuring entry into the country) and all legal documentation to the enter the country.
    3. Girls are then repeatedly raped, drugged and beaten.
    4. They are forced to work off their debt even if they are legally living within the country.

This happens every single day to thousands of women - no amount of legalization/regulation will stop it.
This is not "legal immigration of prostitutes" - they are not immigrants; they have no right to work there - as prostitutes or in any other quality. Their tourist or guest visas do not give them that right.

And yes, of course, there always will be some cases of kidnapping and rape. But the bulk of sex-related human trafficking exists because the business is illegal and non-transparent: prostitution itself is illegal, or working without permanent resident status is illegal, or both.

When we mobilize society to attack an enemy like we did in World War II - the last declared war we fought - then the term WAR ON _______________ will have some meaning. Until then - the phrases is both hollow and a joke. There is no war on drugs nor prostitution. At best, its a weak occasional police effort.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Look at alcohol. Illegal alcohol brewing does still occur but not nearly at the rate it would if it was illegal.

The reason I know it won't stop is because nothing beats free. We'll simply have legal prostitutes and a lot of illegal prostitutes working under the table. Why get paid rent when you can simply put them to work for free? This is the same as with prescription med. It's there, it's just been made inaccessible and expensive, so a new black market for them exists.
