I disagree. There's going to be people who pay extra for legality, and if it's sufficiently regulated it would cut down on the spread of disease.
Sure, and there are people who pay for music CDs/DVDs, yet illegal distribution/downloading is far more profitable than legality. Nothing beats stealing and then selling it - 100% profit margin.

There are already laws in place to protect prostitutes in the EU where prostitution is for the most part legal. You can't force people to prostitute themselves. Which is what human trafficking is all about to begin with. What are the results? Millions being trafficked, women still being abused by pimps. Again, legalizing prostitution won't make human trafficking disappear or even so much as make a dent in a business that turns a near 100% profit.

The EU is not America. I couldn't care less about the EU. I think legalization here in America would certainly make things safer in a variety of ways for all parties involved.

Legalization and regulation would make it easier to track and control who is and who is not prostituting themselves with special licensing requirements, etc. How you think that would have the opposite effect, I don't know but I can't make sense of where you're coming from at all.

Well maybe you're right. Im just not going to take this topic to seriously with a shut-down underway.

Prostitution is not the world's oldest profession. Common sense tells me the world's oldest profession would have to be something like a cook, or hunter, medicin.

Prostitution in America was brought down by one of the earliest women's lib movments.... http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woman...mperance_Union .....so relegalizing it today in the name of women's lib is just stillness.

And then there's international sex-slave traffeking to consider, which was a large part is Sweeden's decision to ban it:

Yes it's your body but you cannot do things which harm others. Legalised prostitution harms others.

You totally ignore my statements about us doing it differently. There is more than one way to skin a cat. I'm sure it would be quite easy to look at other countries, what they've done and what has failed and what has been successful, and apply things in a manner that would be effective.

No one can convince me that regulation and legalization would make prostitution LESS safe than keeping it in the darkness. That just doesn't make sense.

Except with that you don't have diseases being spread around. So you concede legality would cut into the illegal way?

Those exist now, and they wouldn't be on the list.

Its the predatory manipulators that would get it. Maybe tattoo "douche" on their forheads while I'm at it. Or "trick", even better.

Wait, you think legal prostitutes are the only ones who use condoms? Even human traffickers have an interest in keeping their slaves healthy.

What makes you think our government wouldn't be able to make prices sufficiently competitive? I agree, it would be more expensive, but would it be by enough for people to turn down not getting arrested, and not contracting STD'S?
Just like how gun control was supposed to cut down on crime, right?

The most common type of prostitute is the street walker. You can't regulate the street walker because there are simply to many to audit. If one contracts an std disqualifying her from licensure, there is nothing stopping her from selling anyway. There are simply to many street walkers for a 3rd party (cops) to audit.

I have no clue where you got that impression? I don't think condoms are really all that effective at stopping AIDS. The real I'm thinking it would be safer is if it's regulating you could have mandatory testing for legal prostitutes, or have a documents proving they got testing so people know who has.
