Shutdown Pool - When does it reopen?

When will the government shutdown end?

Passed against the will of the republicans constituents. So you think they should ignore their voting block?

They have already tried stoping the affordable care act 40 times. When will the votes to repeal or delay obamacare stop

Reams of legislation are passed against the wishes of constituents. This is not license to bring down the government and threaten our credit. Do you not see how crazy it is to reduce the threshold for shutdown to that level? This isn't even a negotiation it's our party demanding a piece of already enacted legislation be altered, delayed, or defunded. It's ludicrous!

Remember this the next time we have this fight under a Republican President and Democrats explain that they are just fighting for their constituents.

What, exactly, is threatening to our credit more than incurring more debt without an ROI on that investment?

IOW, it's not important enough to YOU. You certainly don't speak for everyone else. PLENTY of people oppose Obamacare. Just read some threads.

To the bolded part, as if that hasn't happened before?

Which part(s)? Some parts never shut down, and some have already re-opened. Do you mean when will the last of the selected part no longer be shut down?

U.s Treasury bonds are the cornerstone of the global market economy because they are believed to be safe investments. Failure to raise the debt ceiling will bring chaos to the market.

Or to paraphrase, US Treasuries are the cornerstone of a Confidence Game called fiat currency. Don't even talk about this "Confidence game." Eh?

I'll continue to stick with my prediction that the default will be solved at the 11th hour on 10/17.
Maybe they can fix the continuing resolution for the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination in his memory.Maybe.

I already voted, but now I don't know how long it will last. No clear end in sight yet.

Fareed's take on his GPS show last Sunday
explained that the Government Shutdown Ploy by the House
was
extortion, not democracy.
he also went on to explain that
If Democrats had threatened to shut down the government to force the repeal of the Bush tax cuts or defund the Iraq War, I would have hoped Bush would have also been uncompromising.

From this article:
That is what is at stake in Washington this week. The debate going on there is not trivial, not transitory – and not about Obamacare. Whatever you think about the Affordable Care Act, it is a law that was passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate, then signed by the president, and then validated by the Supreme Court as constitutional.

This does not mean it cannot be repealed. Of course it can be repealed, as can most laws. But to do so, it would need another piece of legislation – one that says quite simply “The Affordable Care Act is hereby repealed in its entirety” – that passes the House and Senate and is then signed into law by the president.

But what cannot be allowed to stand is the notion that if a group of legislators cannot convince a majority in both houses and the president to agree with them, they will shut down the government or threaten to default until they can get their way. That is extortion, not democracy.

I would be happy to see President Barack Obama compromise on the budget, taxes, spending – even health care. But he cannot compromise on the principle that the rules of democracy must be respected, whatever the outcome.

If Democrats had threatened to shut down the government to force the repeal of the Bush tax cuts or defund the Iraq War, I would have hoped Bush would have also been uncompromising.

My vote was for after Nov. 7th because that was a CR-type date..Repubs, both chanbers, keep changing proposals, and the Senate must ask the POTUS for the House plan..apparently the House and Senate Repubs are the ones who need to "converse"..Now I see JFK's 50th is in 6 weeks..no way america forgets

I should have guessed Oct 17. If a high school teacher assigned their students a project that they could do in a day but gave them a week to do it, they would all turn it in on the last day. Same with these idiots in Congress.

It seems like it was a couple of decades or so ago that colleges went to requiring student lab reports before the end of the 3-hour lab slot..Pre-lab questions were checked before the students could do the lab..

The sooner the better. I'd like to be able to move in our awesome new house before the end of the month.

The later the better. I voted for after November 8. The government saves a very little bit of money every day that it is shutdown. Those little bitty amounts of money that the government is saving can add up to a whole lot if the government can remain shutdown through January 2015. The sun will remain the same place and the earth will continue to spin on it's axis. This shutdown needs to last until the next congress is seated in January 2015. That's what I want to see. That is what Tea Party Republicans want to see as well.

The debt limit can keep going up as far as I am concerned. The spending is what Americans hate not the debt. Even though government employees will still get paid, they can't spend money if they are not at working. They should use this time to focus on their golf swings.

Except that I'm not sure that they're as mature as the average high school student.

Whoah there buddy. That kind of vicious comparison is completely uncalled for.

No need to be so cruel to high school students.

I hope you are correct. If congress fails to raise the debt ceiling I fear we will be in for a deep recession and if people think the last one was bad...well I fear one caused by failing to raise the debt ceiling will be even worse.

Post #60. Pretty darn close huh? These guys are sooooo predictable.
