    Fate of the Republican Party

With nation wide demographics stacking up against any kind of right-wing faction, the growing enmity between the Tea Party and Establishment among Republicans has me wondering about the eventual fate of the party. There's only so much gerrymandering and Voter ID laws can do to stall out the demise, and the two sides won't be able to share power much longer with their constituents making such contradictory demands.

Any demise will be the result of the economy, not a political party...

This is a thread about the Republican Party, not the United States as a whole.

Is this some sort of fascination for you? What do you think happens when there is only one party?

I have said this before, any talk of a demise of the republican party is way premature. The democratic party has been declared dead a couple times in the not too distant past and it is still around. Republicans will find a way to make their message resonate with voters, you can count on it. The only question is how long it will take.

Further, your poll does not have the most likely option, which is that the tea party and more oldschool republicans will merge behind a single message and learn to sell that message, and change it as needed. No party is running on the same issues as even 25 years ago, and both parties will adjust to represent what voters want.

Re: Fate of the Republican Party

Your observations are very short-sighted. The Republican party isn't the same today as it was 20 years ago, and the democratic party wasn't the same as it was 20 years ago. Both have conformed to radicalism and the "punch-line" mentality. 10, 20 years from now...neither will be the same.

If the republican party meets its demise, another will rise to fill the void. Politics exists in a balance, and the world itself does. When there is one extreme, the opposite extreme rises to balance it. Without some type of balance, this country cannot continue to exist as a prosperous nation. I say prosperous with reservation, as I don't expect it to remain that way indefinitely.

Re: Fate of the Republican Party

If they do not try to appeal to the demographics we are going to be left with a bunch of right wing extremists (some would argue we are already there) that cannot even field a legit candidate.

Re: Fate of the Republican Party

It's certainly not the party I remember from my "youth", nor is it the party it was 20-30 years ago. I liked it better then. I despise it now; but I also despise the democratic party, which is certainly not the party it was 20-30 years ago. Eventually a new party may emerge that I actually like, or republicans/democrats might actually stop working for the good of the party and return to working for the good of the nation.
