He did seem to be saying that we shouldn't pay any attention at all to the ACA rollout. Could swear I heard that.

Pres Obama's Cuban Missile Crisis? lol. You do realize that the Cuban Missile Crisis involved a direct threat to the US while this was simply another ruthless Arab chem'ing his own people right? Not to downplay the seriousness of that to the Syrian people but it poses absolutely NO THREAT to the AMERICAN PEOPLE. That's the difference. Comparing those two events is ridiculous in my opinion.

You're so ignorant of history it's not even funny. The Cuba Missile Crisis was never about a direct thread to the US. It was about the Russians securing their interests in the Baltics and around the Black Sea. Just like they've now secured their interests in the Middle East. That's why they set up missiles in Cuba. Not to threaten the US but to force the US' hand into declaring it would look away from Cuba and dismantle in Turkey. The only people foolish enough to think we couldn't have blow them back to oblivion in Cuba are commies.

Oh okay. So we were cool with missiles being that close to the continental US thereby allowing them to range the entire country? It wasn't really about that? It wasn't that the USSR was attempting to build ICBM sites in Cuba so that they would have the ability to strike us in the manner that we could strike them? That's why they were so secretive about it right? Thanks for educating me:roll:

Not really, the Russians never really posed a threat to the US in Cuba. They even managed to continue selling weapons to the Cubans long after the missile crisis. We however, posed a serious threat to them in the Baltics, Mediterranean and Black Sea. What happened after the missile crisis? You think Kennedy actually won? He dismantled our nukes in the area in exchange for the Russians taking away theirs and the Republicans still blow him over that fact. As I said, in 20 years, they'll be praising Obama for doing exactly what JFK did.

You're welcome.

You're right, they didn't pose a threat. The sites were seen before they could become a threat. The fact remains that the Cuban Missile Crisis has no bearing on this particular event. They are not the same. Syria, nor Russia for that matter, are of any threat to us in the manner that the USSR was back then. We are not giving anything up in the Middle East in the same manner in which Kennedy did. We have nothing to give up. The Syrians nor Russians have no leverage over us right now.
Pres Obama has bumbled this just like he does almost everything else. He made public his desire to go into Syria before he even knew how the Senate would react. He allowed Putin to upstage him. He sent his Sec of State on TV before himself to trumpet the cause. He began this prior to the G20 instead of waiting until he got back therefore losing what little momentum he had on Capital Hill. He hasn't been honest and said what he would do if his proposal were voted down in the Congress. I could go on and on with this. The guy's incompetent and in over his head in matters like this. He doesn't seem to think his way through things. Now, you want to give him credit for that? Sounds like some Kool-Aid drinking to me.

We're not giving up anything in the Mediterranean? How about oil trade supremacy? What? You think the Russians don't know Syria is the ONLY country in the Mediterranean with any serious oil supplies?

Nonsense. He has forced Assad to avoid any future WMD shenanigans and has put the Russian in a position where ANY severe violations of civil rights will be seen as a betrayal of the "good faith" Putin has on Assad. It's only a matter of time before Assad screws it up and when he does, Obama will be seen as the person who saw the monster nobody else did.

We have plenty of sources for oil. Syria is a blip on the radar in the world of oil. However, the point you're making is that dropping a few Cruise missiles on Syria would convince them to do business with us? Got it. Even if oil was the issue here, there is no course of action that works. What Pres Obama should have done is kept his mouth shut and allowed the UN and Syria's neighbors to take care of the issue there. Instead, he decided to draw his red line. Now he has no capital to bargain with. He has a Congress that won't back him, a public that isn't with him, the UN isn't with him, Putin has made an idiot of him, and Assad has run to the Russians to do his dealing.

Assad hasn't been forced to do anything yet so let's not get ahead of ourselves. Putin made this happen. No Putin, we are going to a failed vote in the House. And if you really believe that Assad will give up everything he has, you're very naive. If I were Pres Obama, I wouldn't believe the guy got rid of all of his chemical weapons until I walked every inch of that entire country looking for them. We all know that isn't going to happen. And I don't want to hear that he wouldn't be stupid enough to use chem's after he said he got rid of them. The guy's stupid enough to use them in the first place.
