But our President, Barack Obama doesn't. In fact Obama already announced what the main mission of NASA will be from now on. Reaching out to the Muslims world.

NASA Chief: Move Out Of The Way Startrek, Next Frontier Better Relations With Muslim World

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.

Though international diplomacy would seem well outside NASA's orbit, Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera that strengthening those ties was among the top tasks President Obama assigned him. He said better interaction with the Muslim world would ultimately advance space travel.

First, when you link something from Fox I just roll my eyes. Second, while I agree that Space funding is essential and Barack Obama is damaging it by under funding it, I wouldn't say that all he looks to do is reach out to Muslims. Have you seen his drone usage, his willingness to get involved in every middle eastern country possible, his clear disregard for human (including Muslim) life?

Heya CB .....yep that's what that mining company was saying. Although I haven't heard to many mention gold being in any asteroids. Course gold is used for shielding like with most ships and the space station.

Fox News is a very reliable source. Fox News has had to retract less news stories that CNN, NBC, CBS and ABC.

I did try to use the BBC story but was having problems of opening the entire page.

What the article is really saying, that Obama is using NASA for social engineering.

Have you been on the Department of Homeland Security website ? Yep, Obama is using the DHS for social engineering. The DHS is pushing food stamps on their website. Telling foreigners, terrorist and illegal aliens how to apply for food stamps.

This is a DHS website. If you don't believe me, look at the left hand bottom of the website. ->WelcometoUSA.gov | Government Benefits

We just shot a cool new probe to the moon, but how important is space exploration to the future of America? Is there none? Do we need to get back up there?
250million to send a probe to the moon to examine its atmosphere (there isn't one). And yet we have a trillion dollar deficit, and were constantly told we cant afford to feed children and take care of veterans. I would put the priority at the very bottom. And that's before we get to the fact that space exploration isn't in the constitution, and thus illegal spending.

When you get deranged about FNC, we roll our eyes. Just accept it and move on.

So we should just perpetually live like it's 1789?

I got a movie called "The Village" you might like.

Re: How Important is Space Exploration as a National Interest?

Although I have a deep passion for space exploration, and used to be a big Star---- fan, we're broke guys. We have no money for this, and have so many problems right here. I'm not a big "throw money at it" guy, but we could really use that money to solve problems here and now. Scientific exploration is essentially the search for more problems, and we already have enough.
