Your perception does not 'comport' with 'factual evidence'.

    Pretty macho and juvenile, right?
I didn't realize that being prepared to shoot it out with a child in your arms might be a consideration. But who knows, the zombie apocalypse could happen, right?

People don't get shot at while they are near children? who knew? How's everything in fairyland anyway?

I don't know anything about guns, but....

Wouldn't it be more badass to pull out your gun and cock it in your mugger's face than to just pull it out and start shooting?

It's not about being a badass, it's about eliminating a threat.

Not if the mugger has control of one of your arms. Many muggers don't like to give you advance notice of their intent and prefer to jump you from behind. Racking the slide is not a one handed operation for many people.

But some are very good at it

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” ― George Bernard Shaw, Man and Superman

Actually I had something like this happen, or almost happen.

I was in a parking lot, had my child (he was around 8 I think) holding my left hand (traffic you know). Two men working as a team approached me from different directions, apparently intent on mugging me.

I sidestepped to put my back to a car, leading my child with one hand while putting my other on my concealed handgun.

When the two men saw I was armed, they ceased their approach and left the area quickly.

The only time I am ever worried about that kind of thing is when I am with my son. I'm not concerned about my own safety all that much, but I am concerned about his safety.

How's the little Tucker doing, anyway? What is he now, about a year old? More?

I remember when my boy was small... whooo, talk about worries! For one thing I thought my left arm was going to permanently freeze in the 'carrying child in crook of elbow' position.
