As I've gotten older, I've thought about end of life issues - I think most people these days do. I am a very independent person and if/when the time comes when that independence is no longer assured, I believe I will find a way to cease living rather than have a life dependent totally on others.

Yes, and it appears to have been successful many times too. (jk)

I agree. I think suicide should be a legal choice as it is in some other countries around the world. The only requirement should be a period of counseling to determine if the decision is based on rational consideration and valid concerns (i.e. aging, permanent or recurring pain, illness, etc.) Then it should be doctor assisted.

If I stop responding it doesn't mean I've conceded the point or agree with you. It only means I've made my point and I don't mind you having the last word. Please wait a few minutes before "quoting" me. I often correct errors for a minute or two after I post before the final product is ready.

Never tried, never will. People who commit suicide are cowards (outside of those suffering from painful and/or debilitating diseases).

    Re: commiting suicide ?

Most of lifes problems are fixable at least to an acceptable level. I think what most people who commit suicide suffer from is seeing a way out of these problems. No path seems to be present so their problems seem insurmountable to them. They feel that they will always carry these burdens and life will always be this unpleasant.

I wouldn't say they are cowards, as most of the people I have known who were suicidal, were clinically depressed to the point of losing a firm grasp on reality, and were not thinking rationally at all. They see it as a way to end their emotional suffering.
