sorry that doesnt answer the question in the slightest bit
now will you explain how in the world "giving atheist rights takes away religious peoples rights"

if you dont have an answer and want to admit you made it up that works too

I did in another post that I thought you would read so I didn't feel the need to repeat myself. post #95

Seems like we agree, I said the point is moot because no atheist could get elected in a bible thump state anyway.

Then you have no reason to oppose it, nor do you have argument as to how it will infringe upon your rights.

First off this isn't about my rights or my opposing it, I'm not in any of those states and personally I could give a crap if an atheist runs for office in Idaho. I'm just arguing the issue on its merits. Do THOSE people in THOSE states have a right to demand their politicians are not atheist, that was the OP and I answered it.

They have the right to not vote for an atheist, they have no right to bar an atheist from running.

Actually they do have the right to stop an atheist from running, you just don't like it. To bad so sad, write your congressman and get him to author a new law.
Show us, because you are incorrect. There is no religious test allowed for Public office.

No dice, you have to prove they can't do it, where is the law that says they can't? There are laws that say what you can't do not what you can do so put up or shut up.

Article 6 section 3 of the constitution.

Tell that to the Texas Legislature...if the following is correct:

The following is from the OP...

Texas:

"No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being."[87]

Aside from whatever the Texas Statutes say...

Obviously...if a person running for office made it publicly known that he or she is atheist...then, you're 100% right, voters have control over which lever they pull or which name they punch.

However, I'm a native Texan, been around a few decades...and nobody that I'm aware of has come forward as being an atheist candidate.

Consequently, "as far as I know", there's been no legal challenge before the Texas Supreme Court of the US Supreme Court to rule or make a decision on such. I don't have a clue as to what this current US Supreme Court might say in this situation.

If the First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion...then I think it should also include freedom FROM religion as well.

Atheist rights? I'm not sure really, giving atheist rights takes away religious peoples rights.

As that is demonstrably untrue, and it is demonstrably true that it is atheists' rights that are taken away as illustrated by the OP, your post leaves me underwhelmed.

Well, Atheists have been discriminated against for a long time...predating our country. Just do what we all do if you want to hold office...fake it. "Yeah sure...I swear on the Bible." It wouldn't be the worst thing a future politician faked.

No wonder you were afraid to post it, that is about federal politicians not state, we already discussed that.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
State elected officials are not in any office or public trust under the United States?

We'd be better off to have them swear on the Constitution.

and then demonstrate a knowledge of what is in it.

So demonstrate it then.

Is there anywhere in the country where there is a law or constitution that clearly states that no religious person is allowed to hold office?

State elected officials are not in any office or public trust under the United States?

No, there are state elected officials and United States elected officials and they are two different things. This is not just my opinion this is fact as evidenced by the reality that states are requiring a religion litmus test and there has been no reaction by the fed. You are clutching at straws here, the constitution went out of it's way to delineate a difference between state and fed regulations.

Well, it's possible for an atheist I think. US Rep. Ellis out of Minnesota was sworn into office using a Quran. A lot of people didn't think that would ever happen, but it did.

Times are changing for some...others are leaving claw marks.

Perhaps the civil war would have better served us all if it was fought to free the ignorant...from their ignorance, bigotries, and prejudices.
Too Nebulous.

What you really meant to say is "Perhaps the civil war would have better served us all if it was fought to enslave freedom fighters with political correctness principles".
