The same principal upon which a child's belief in Santa Clause is predicated.

Which is all well and good as far as it goes.

If "having faith" makes you feel better about yourself, life, the dark, whatever, then enjoy it.

But I still maintain that it is completely impossible to know that God exists (I think it is equally impossible to claim that you know that God doesn't exist).

l didnt ask " do you know god exists "

l asked " do you believe "

Other, I have no idea.

Sometimes I feel there is a possibility of some kind of God(s) or Goddess(es)but many times I don't. Maybe it's more I like to think there is but logically, as in no factual proof, doesn't seem to be.

However with so much still unexplained I like to think there is a possibility of anything.

"My troubles are many; they're as deep as a well.
I can swear there ain't no heaven but I pray there ain't no hell.
Swear there ain't no heaven and pray there ain't no hell, but I'll never know by living, only my dying will tell, only my dying will tell, yeah, only my dying will tell.
And when I die and when I'm gone, there'll be one child born and a world to carry on, to carry on."
Laura Nyro's

good song. sums up the topic well.

Do I believe God exists. Yep.
better to be safe than sorry.:)

Still, that word won't work.
Even when you believe you should be based on smth.
I may use it for example: "I believe my fellow is still alive because he is a good soldier and he can survive alone on that dangerous forest"

GOD is just predicated. Just as soot mentioned, nothing different than Santa Claus.
When kids born they get feed with the GOD with samples like: behave good because GOD is watching you.

if l speak for myself l have always questioned the god ,religions ,the reality ,meaning of the life etc

l knew comparing santa to god was too stupid even when l was a child

Okay, I see what the problem is.

You actually asked both.

The thread title asks "do you believe god exists?"

The poll title asks "does god exist?"

I was basing my response on the poll.

If GOD exist, I'll hunt him down.

vote ,thank you

Very difficult question to answer, as my concept of God isn't highly personal, and if it does exist, I perceive it as more of a creative energy than a human-like being which involves itself directly in human affairs. So, do I believe God exists in a conventional manner? Not really, but I do believe in a natural order of things, and that there is some purpose to life besides eating, sleeping, and having sex.

l dont think god is a human like being either

your post reminded me of maslow's hierarchy of needs

I am no authority on religion but I believe Jesus once said "blessed are those that have not seen and believe'" a follower by the name of "Doubting Thomas" comes to mind.

It's a story in a book of mythology, you can't demonstrate Jesus actually ever existed in the first place.

Agreed. So why do you feel compelled to tell me the obvious?

Because unfortunately, you tend to do poorly with the obvious.

How we feel/think about it is part of the reality.

Nope. You can hate gravity all you want, it doesn't change the fact that gravity exists. Your feelings have no bearing on what actually is.

Ahhh...but who said anything about changing the fact that gravity exists?

At one point man could not fly. That was, undeniably, the reality. Then people started feeling, thinking, trying to change that reality and Voilà: they did indeed change the reality, they figured out a way to temporarily defy gravity and man can now fly.

No, man still cannot fly, man can make big metal cylinders fly and can ride on the inside. Man, by himself, doesn't fly. Try again.

man can now fly.
People on old ages were too stupid (before they started to eat frozen meat).
When they saw the rain and thunderstorms, they called it God's punishment.
They called a God even the guy who invented the fire, who probably made it accidentally. lol

I'm sure if we ever see someone flying (who knows, it may be smth not explored yet like the fire), he will be called "God" and it will be same stupid as it was at B.C. ages.

Why rely on belief? Why not know? Why not at least determine if it is likely or not? Belief is just what you want to be true. Relying on belief instead of knowledge is a terrible idea.
