It's very similar to some pagan beliefs. IOW, witchcraft.

I think it usually provides a good moral outlook as well as incentive or pressures to abide by the morals, lest eternal punishment await.

For me, understanding that our influence goes on eternally is sufficient. I don't think anyone really wants to poison the well. I think that's a much more sound motivation than eternal personal punishment, especially given the 'this world doesn't matter' connotations.

But if how you act helps determine the rest of your existence, that aides motivation. The fact that at many given times an individual will not is a valid weakness, but not a full denunciation of the concept of controlling behavior through faith.

I believe that how I act determines the rest of my existence, through my influence that continues after my physical death. I don't need magic or a conscious afterlife to understand that. Isn't that a more solid foundation, and based less on concern for ones personal well-being?

It works for you, certainly. As for me, I don't have faith in mankind, and I think mankind needs fear in their belly to do right.

I think that people who can be trusted with the concept of 'God' have their 'good moral outlook' built in and those who look to their god for their morality are inevitably going to pervert the meaning of 'good'.

I have fear, that my influence ("spirit/soul") could suck. And that's all we have after physical death.

It's a modern magic form, so I suppose it depends of your definition of pagan and witchcraft but that's besides the point, the point is there's at least one belief system that involves switching belief systems.

"Some common sources of inspiration include such diverse areas as science fiction, scientific theories, traditional ceremonial magic, neoshamanism, Eastern philosophy, world religions, and individual experimentation. Despite tremendous individual variation, chaos magicians (sometimes called "chaotes"[2]) often work with chaotic and humorous paradigms, such as the worship of Hundun from Taoism or Eris from Discordianism, and it is common for chaotes to believe in whatever god suits their current paradigm and discard it when necessary."
