No soul. I adore humanity frankly, I think we are a lovely lovely fluke. If there is some greater being that orchestrated all of this, than that being is beyond our ability to define or certainly beyond mine. It is frightening to stare into that abyss, isn't it.

No, man still cannot fly, man can make big metal cylinders fly and can ride on the inside. Man, by himself, doesn't fly. Try again.

One can truly feel for a drowning person wildly thrashing about trying to find something to keep afloat with, madly grasping even a wisp of straw which is plainly incapable of doing the job. The reality here, for all rational thinkers quite plain to see, is your grasping at straws, my man. You can hate that all you want, it doesn't change the fact that man does, indeed, fly. Your feelings, thrashings and futile graspings to the contrary have no real bearing on what actually is.

Reality, deal with it.:2razz:

People on old ages were too stupid (before they started to eat frozen meat).
When they saw the rain and thunderstorms, they called it God's punishment.
They called a God even the guy who invented the fire, who probably made it accidentally. lol

I'm sure if we ever see someone flying (who knows, it may be smth not explored yet like the fire), he will be called "God" and it will be same stupid as it was at B.C. ages.
Funny about the flying part as I just had occasion to use that theme in this thread a few moments ago...

We have seen people fly and we do not call them gods, we call them pilots.

It is no use discussing with someone who believes he got his DNA from lifeless rocks, as that is what this world was and what you would have had to have descended from...and how would a rock ever be in a position to think up the idea of DNA much less follow through creating the actual thing when our best scientists cannot create it out of all the best conditions of their choosing... either.

Next you might be telling me that we should put screen doors on submarines.

Pilots do not fly, they drive.

I wouldn't say JP instilled that old time religion, TD...but very close.

In 95 JP and RP played Cincinnati-at the same venue I had seen them 18 years earlier with JPJ and the late great JB. As my wife and I walked out of the arena, an inebriated 20 something young man sort of stared at us and said

I THOUGHT CLAPTON WAS GOD

I WAS WRONG-JIMMY PAGE IS GOD

my wife looked at the guy and said

Absolutely -Praise the Lord

and he wandered off

I completely agree. There's some fantastic players, but JP...JP...is the sum total of the maamajamma...

I though everyone knew that GOD does not exist.

Kind of ignorant of you.

I thought everyone knew that most people believed in some form of a higher power but maybe I'm wrong too

You believe half of the things you say and say half of the things you believe. ;)

lol
That's not a fly. It's a fall.
Yep... quite pointless really to further this discussion, but...you see, if you were to actually have rock DNA and you fell/jump off a cliff, you would just fall like all other rocks. However, if you have the brains god gave you then you might just do otherwise like this guy did in the video, fly...but I would suggest you not go jumping off any cliffs if you really believe what you say you believe... and even if not...

That's why I checked all of the boxes in the poll

What's other? I guess that would be "I don't know?"

Yes, without an umbrella or parachute everyone would fall like a rock. But using them doesn't mean they are flying at all.
The difference is on time only. the rocket fall in ground for 4 seconds and the guy in video for 4 minutes. In both cases it is a fall.

Some version of uncertainty I would imagine or maybe he/she/it exists somedays and not others or maybe it's your belief that 'reality is belief' and such a reality changes with your belief.

Exists some days and not others? Is that a way to say your faith varies depending upon your mood? :2razz:

I choose to believer there is a God. That he or she (really both) wants us to be our better selves. But I don't believe a God that has both an old deal and a new deal is as inflexible and hateful as some paint him or her (really both) to be. I worry most about hose who insist they know God's will, and that others don't. Those who have no doubt are the most dangerous IMHO. But if God wanted no doubt, he or she (really both) would leave no room for doubt.

Great post. I agree with this 100%. :)

I don't know. Part of me does, the other part of me does not. Regardless of that, I think that the more people who edge toward believing in a god, the better it is for the rest of us.

Do I believe in the god of the bible, koran, torah, an invisible deity in the sky who simultaneous hears the thoughts and prayers of 7 billion people? No, I don't.

OTOH, I do believe that there are things far beyond our realm of comprehension at this stage of our evolutionary development, things which might seem as paranormal and miraculous to us as flipping a bic would seem to the caveman. So I also voted "Other".

Maybe

and there are certain belief systems out there (or maybe just chaos magic) that change the dictates of their belief systems semi-frequently although I don't think they're very widespread.
