In my book, it clearly has to be John Edwards who had the potential to be President and tossed it away for a harpy looking for a leg up, or was that two legs up.

I give this distinct honor to Ralph Nadar.

If you want to limit it to actual presidential nominees, my choice would be Ross Perot who brought the country a President Clinton and his wife who are the initiaters of the hyper-partisanship you have in America today.

I don't put that blame solely on the Clinton's. Gingrich and his cronies were part of it as well. This new high level of partisanship was caused by both big parties. They all had their hands in the cookie jar.

Romney is the only person on the list who was really qualified to be president

Until Clinton became President, you generally had Presidents and leaders in congress working together - with Clinton, and every President after with the exception of Bush during the 9/11 aftermath, hyper-partisanship has been the norm.

You could possibly go back to the Justice Bork confirmation hearings to see the seeds of hyper-partisanship being sown, but Clinton is when it fully bloomed.

I can't disagree necessarily with your assessment. It did take off during his administration for sure. My only argument is that it wasn't just Bill Clinton...it was Congress and his administration.

This is true enough - it takes two to do the partisan hyper-dance.
