    No, because speaking positively about his coming out doesn't appear to negatively impact ratings, whereas comments which are perceived as bigoted (regardless of whether or not they actually are bigoted) have been known to negatively impact ratings.

    think of it this way, if a basketball analyst said "The Christians are bigots and homophobes for denouncing homosexuality" on-air, do you think it would warrant a reprimand form ESPN? I do.
    I think it's fine to protect profit margins but I don't see any evidence that the margins of a network which uses the slogan "EMBRACE DEBATE" [their emphasis] needed protection because of Broussard's statements He didn't say anything especially negative and it's ESPN, not MSNBC.

    See post 30 where i retracted my claims about him being reprimanded. I should have gotten all of the info before commenting on this issue.

    hmm if thats the case i also have to agree, not only are his comments not bigoted then but since he was on another show and asked his opinion and his answer was a basic general answer then he shouldnt even be punished in anyway IMO.

    Now with that said depending on ESPNs contract they probably still can legally but i wouldnt support them in doing so.

    I don't even understand why this whole thing gained so much attention. It was a civil, normal conversation.

    I suppose a lot of opinions would change if people turned off FOX, MSNBC, or whatever and looked at the actual source.

    thanks, i already stated how i feel because someone else let me know how it happened post 35

    but i clearly understand how it happened, while i do feel the way i do in post 35, IMO you simply dont comment at all directly about a person. IN general it would have been better but when asked directly about an individual and you responded about that individual and bash/judge him that is going to get attention in the media. I mean its media, you could say you think a better color shoe would look good on somebody and it will be a big deal because its direct.

    alos i wouldnt use the word "civil" but i wouldnt call it uncivil either
