Maybe

Boycott over Russian policies and laws or by the way they treat their own homosexuals? - NO
There are much worse abuses in other Nations that we do not boycott.

But if our own athletes or our citizens are endangered then we most definitely should boycott.
I am not aware of having been assured by the Russian Government itself, that our people will be exempted. If that is the case, then a boycott could be warranted.

Which is still remembered and talked about?

Owens because the Allies won the inevitable war at great cost.

Hitler should have been confronted earlier for his civil rights abuses and a boycott should have been part of that.

No boycott but Id love to see someone kiss their significant other at the podium in contravention of the law

Undoubtedly Jesse Owens, but i don't think it won the war or otherwise atoned for having the olympics there. That's just my take on it.

You/we have the luxury of hindsight. When the games were awarded, and even held, it was not yet fully known what the regime was going to be like.

You are a walking hypocrite.

You want everyone else, to sacrifice their freedom, or have the government deny them their place to compete in the Olympics, so that you can make a stand for freedom?

My God...

Do you even realize what you are saying?

I think you must have misread what I said

Life can be unfair. Get used to it.

so its fair if you demand a boycott and some athlete say kills you? that seems to be a logical extrapolation of the idiocy you advocate

Yes, and our law is by majority rule. The majority changes our laws.

Did you know this law passed in Russia by something like 468 to 0...

Maybe you should get used to the facts.

don't underestimate the power of minorities or the government's power to protect minorities against the tyranny of the majority ...

glad that you're finally realizing that ... but what you said was not only stupid, but racist as well ... why not stop that crap?

only someone trying to create a racist argument would make that moronic claim. Pimp has nothing to do with color. Only you seem to be getting a case of faux indignation over that crap

Moronic does come to mind ... have a flight to catch ... laytah ...

nice retreat. I see only you think the term PIMP has to be a slur against blacks.

What a wimp reply.

there are a few leftwingers who throw out claims of racism in order to stifle arguments they don't like and then they run away from their bomb throwing when others point out how moronic such a charge is

That's funny. I looked for one to include, but couldn't find it as an option.

Boycotting doesn't help anybody accomplish anything. The best protest would be to pack our delegation with as many gays as we can and come into the opening ceremonies waving rainbow flags.

Also against the rules.

What better publicity for the issue of gay rights than for a gay athlete to participate and win medals?

In your face, Russian government!

Think Jesse Owens.
