i agree the people that i know that have switch, have switched in the opposite direction. I dont know any that went from lib to conservative in real life at least not that they talk about (not everbody talks about it)

now with that said there may be SOME individual issues they are more conservative on but overall their outlook has gone from republican to dem or independent

Re: How many times (if any) have you changed your political affiliation?

I became interested in politics in 92 election (I was a sophmore in high school then). I pretty quickly came to identify with the Republicans and for a while was a pretty rabid partisan Republican. Coming here and actually talking with intelligent, rational liberals made me realize that while I often still disagreed with them, they had good intentions and sometimes a few valid points. So while I still considered myself a Republican, I was no longer so blindly partisan.

Then I began to get disenchanted with the Republican party - who talk a good game about small government, but rarely follow through with meaningful action. And I also began to become distrustful of the government imposing solutions to many of the cultural or social issues. By 2008 I was done with them and started to consider myself a small L libertarian. I could never join the Libertarian Party - they are too dogmatic and blindly idealogical for my tastes, but I can't call myself a Republican anymore either. Voting wise, I've voted for the LP candidate the last two presidential elections. I voted for the Republican rep for my district in 2010, one of the tea party candidates who talked a good game about fiscal conservatism and then did nothing about it once he got into office. The district was redrawn for 2012 and I voted LP in that one (which I would've even if the district wasn't redrawn since Kinzinger was such a disappointment).

    BTW:

Your avatar has some tig ole bitties.
"I condemn the ideology of White Supremacy and Nazism. They are thugs, criminals, and repugnant, and are against what I believe to be "The American Way" "
Thus my obligatory condemnation of White supremacy will now be in every post, lest I be accused of supporting it because I didn't mention it specifically every time I post.
