... because it might be incredibly important that you know about it right the **** now? Because it might save your life?

News flash: saving your ass from a foreign attack is within the job description of the federal government.

Not if we're forced to get daily SMS messages about what color socks Barry is wearing.

So you're saying that the government will expand to having a media branch.

The people of Boston should have received an SMS alert to stay off the streets after the Marathon bombings.

You are under the failed impression that these emergency alerts can't be localized.

You know, cause, Obama never heard of area codes.

Because people never move and just leave their phone numbers, right?

I know a ton of people who came from back east who still keep their old numbers, even though they live thousands of miles away from those area codes.

So you're saying that the government will expand to having a media branch.

Yes, that is it.

Obama will be sending daily SMS messages giving you his daily take on The Big Bang Theory, House, and How I Met Your Mother.

That's why you get rid of that Apple crap. You know, the idiots running the commercials that say "it's all about how it makes you feel", not "it's actually reliable, up to date and advanced".

Apple sucks.

Smart phones are what they are now because of the iPhone.

AT&T Wireless Rolling Out Forced President Obama Alerts For iPhone Users

I've got an iPhone and I looked at my settings and sure enough, Amber and Emergency alerts are enabled. I could turn them off (I haven't) but my understanding is the presidential alerts cannot be disabled. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Seems I should have the option to disable any notification I want.

What do you think. Should you be required to receive presidential alerts on your phone whether you want to or not? Options will be yes, no, and I don't know/maybe.

Working on poll right now.

I actually think it's a pretty good idea, and as long as it was what they say and only notifies you in cases of emergency, then I would probably keep it. However, I think people should be able to opt out if they choose.

Forced? You're probably already signed up for those text alerts.

They are pretty damn AMazing!!!

Obama has quite the sense of humor. Yesterday he texted me a picture of his right thumb, and the day before he sent me a list of what he had to eat for the day.

What the hell kind of alert can 0bama give me? Really?

*ding* Are you feeling down? Try ObamaCare™!
*ding* Feeling poor? Vote Democrat™ next election!
*ding* Your neighbor now makes more money than you. He must be ripping someone off.
*ding* Government is your friend!

So? My life is my concern. I don't need the government to be my mommy.

News flash: saving your ass from a foreign attack is within the job description of the federal government.

So? How does that warrant anything?

An opt-out feature should be there. I would say by default it should be on, but opt-out.

I'd prefer that the phone owner choose to opt in.

I work for a fairly large employer, and we've had a alert system for several years. The system makes me insane. There are multiple tests of the system, and we are required to respond to them. When there is a notification, it's sent to our computers, work phones, home phones (those with land lines, LOL), and cells. Sometimes 6-7 times.
The redundancy is ridiculous.

Think about the annoyance potential alone of this on the federal level.

I'd probably say it'd be best to allow them to be disabled, but I don't have an issue with them not being able to be. IF it's abused, then you deal with the abuse. But based on its purpose, and if it remains within that, I don't see it as any worse than an emergency notification going across the television stations.

You're correct, but I wouldn't put it past this President to find a way to institute an "emergency message tax".

No way man.

He'll charge us a "Liberate Syria, fund the DNC, pay for my daughters' prom dress, buy me ice cream" text message tax.

Now, that would be inefficient - much better to have each created separately so that revenue collection can be better enhanced.

I heard Obama may require a SMS tax to pay for his love of ice cream and french fries.

Smart phones are what they are now because of the iPhone.

After which, they far surpassed the iPhone and Apple is still trying to rest on their laurels. What have they done for me today? Not jack.
