Would you vote for a president that was not a christian?

The US has had 44 consecutive christian presidents. I wonder if we will ever have one that isnt.

Could I? Yes. Would I? Just depends on who they are and what they advocate.

Yes, but that's not what I look for when voting.

If (s)he was the one who came closest to having my ideals, then sure. If a Christian did, then that's who I'd vote for. Can't see why it should make a difference.

44 declared. Who can say what some have actually believed?
Here's a thought- which would be a bigger out-of-the-closet, a gay president or an atheist one?

We've had a good few Presidents that were Deists or Unitarians, both of which are arguably not Christian. Believing in the divinity of Christ is a pretty central part of Christianity.

We'll have a non-Christian President in our lifetime. I can pretty much guarantee it. Especially with percent of nonreligious in my generation (Millennials) and the following generation.

James Buchanan lived with another man for 13 years and referred to him like a partner. The personal communications, letters and such are also suggestive, but as with most historical figures, there's nothing definitive to prove it one way or another ... Amusingly, their political opponents would refer to them as "Miss Nancy" and "Aunt Fancy".

So long as he/she is willing to stick up for the good religion does for people and society.

Yes, of course, I would vote for a non Christian president. But I need to tell you, we've had only 43 presidents. Grover Cleveland was the Twenty-second and Twenty-fourth president.

Re: Would you vote for a president that was not a christian?

I am pretty sure Jefferson and the first Adams were not christian. In fact, they publicly ridiculed it. The only concern I have related to religion is the born-again types who can't wait for the world to end. Seems like not a great idea to give them a nuclear arsenal. Other than that, I couldn't care less.
