Then many people are wrong. If anything, Catholics are more Christian than any other denomination, considering that Catholicism is the Apostolic Church.

Used to be, but that is another debate for another thread.

In all honesty, I wouldn't vote for a Muslim.

I wouldn't vote for someone who associates himself with a religion that has, in my opinion, caused so many human rights violations and violent acts around the world. Honor killings, oppression of women, death penalty for gays, etc.

I know someone is going to respond by saying that there are plenty of "liberal Muslims" but honestly, I think that's just a guilt thing. I think they know that a lot of Islam is morally wrong, but they feel guilty so they still pretend to practice it. It's the same with so called "cafeteria Catholics". The thing is, if you actually truly believe, you would believe that having a gay lifestyle, for instance, would cause you to have eternal damnation. It's doublethink. I do not want a President that practices either practices doublethink or supports human rights violations.

Christianity is also a violent religion. This is the same religion that caused the holocaust, crusades, and the inquisition.

They would likely have to be a Liberal Muslim for me to vote for them and I'm not sure I'm going to be voting for a liberal president in the next election.

I had more issues with voting for a Mormon, they're too close to their cult years for comfort. I've seen parents leave their lives, their jobs, lose their tenure all because the twelve called on them to go on a mission in south america.

They're wrong.

Yeah catholics are definitely Christian. Some people only believe their ideas of what a Christian is, is the reality. don't bother with this battle. It leads to condesnding private messages, and then the obvious petulance of "just because you don't want to argue with my bull headed opinion you must be wrong" not worth it. Sane yourself the trouble of having to delete nonsense from the inbox.

I could vote for a president based not on his religion.

Actually, most of those who claim that Catholics are not Christian are Catholic themselves. They discern a difference more so than non-Catholics.

I've never heard a Catholic say that.

I'd actually see it as a huge benefit if he weren't religious at all. Then maybe he could make decisions based on what's best for the country and not what's best for his religious supporters.

I would add that the President should only obey the Constitution of the United States. If he (or she) would do that there would be no room for a theocratic regime.

Precisely. The president's #1 priority in the world should be the American people. The religious can not fulfill that requirement, because they will always place their gods first.

I think I'd prefer a non-religious president, but I don't really care.

And that goes double if the canidate would be a pastor or priest (or whatever). When Texas was its own country preachers were bared from holding public office and it is a shame that that no longer holds.

If I believe a candidate is the best choice for the country, I don't care what his/her religion is... or if he/she doesn't have a religion at all.

As others have said, closest fitting my beliefs of what is need for this country, is the deciding factor.

Not age, gender, race, skin color or sexual orientation, religion or lack their of.

No, that is also not Christian.

From the title page of 'The Book of Mormon'

"And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, "

That one little line doesn't make you Christian.
