So, what if, down the line, the target is not terrorist activity, but say, something like political affiliation? What if the government is secretly going after people involved with certain political affiliations?

The whole "I have nothing to hide" idea is great until one day you do have something to hide.

Well, my particular political affiliations are subject to monitoring, but I would agree, for the general American populace, to use this to monitor political affiliations outside of actual threat - groups (if you are a founding member of the 'We Love Jihad Against The Infidel Party', well, you maybe will get looked at) that would be an absolute abuse of this power.

There are senators who want to try him for treason.....

There is no prohibiting the freedom of the press.....unless the press exposes that the government is unlawfully spying on American civilians.

dont see how he can be tried for treason,...in order to do that the man would have to conspire with another government.

and there is no evidence of that.

Actually it is. That's why the NSA is part of the Department of Defense.

As Justin Bartha said in National Treasure, "We probably have our own satellite by now".
"He who does not think himself worth saving from poverty and ignorance by his own efforts, will hardly be thought worth the efforts of anybody else." -- Frederick Douglass, Self-Made Men (1872)
"Fly-over" country voted, and The Donald is now POTUS.

Our government has found the perfect vehicle for stripping it's citizens of their liberties and freedoms. It's terrorism, and it's been working wonders.

With each and every freedom we give up in the name of fighting terrorism, we allow the terrorists to win.

Fear is such a wonderful motivator and tool.

"We have to spy on you - it's for your own safety."

That's so nice. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

"We must trample on your rights, and erode your freedom down to a tiny nub. It's for your own good. Honestly. It's all to keep you safe."

I'm fairly shocked at how many people are not more outraged over this kind of government activity.

I don't think the NSA has any business with such data. I don't think Snowden had any business exposing the NSA, either. Two separate events. Treason? Had Snowden been a higher level employee, that word would never come up.
