I think 20th century sees it differently.

Yeah. A dictatorship is definitely the most efficient form of government. If efficiency is a major concern. 10 years, say we elect a dictator for 10 years with the unspoken understanding that there's choices besides the ballot box for getting rid of dictators.
I dunno, might be worth trying out.

Yes, if efficiency means making the trains run on time, it is.

However, power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Gridlock is GOOD. 2 houses of congress and need to pass BOTH, is good.
And VETO is GOOD. And the supreme court can declare it unconstitutional, if it survives the thicket of legislature and executive thumbs downs.
All these inhibitors were installed by the founders to insure making laws is HARD.
It's not SUPPOSED to be efficient or easy.

Hey, maybe absolute corruption is preferable to the keep-em-guessing kind.
I'm being kind of flippant here, but maybe not absolutely. Maybe democracy is unworkable above a municipal level.

Give it up Jessie, you won't make it through the first round.

Im getting tired of wannabe independents and libertarians complaining that nothing ever gets done in Congress. There are dozens of bills which get passed in congress which do help people. You're just mad nobody embraces your ideology enough to pass something you like.

As Robert Caro said, "Power doesn’t always corrupt. Power can cleanse.” America is definitely overdue for a good cleansing. Democracy is incredibly overrated, and we need to abandon this stagnant, failed form of government before it ruins us. We're the laughing stock of the world because of the constipated political system we have.

Ah, good ole' Jesse. Thanks for the fireworks, ya scary old maniac, you.

I don't think I'd vote for him, but third party? With enthusiasm.

I'd vote for Jesse. In a heartbeat. When I moved to Minnesota in '99 I hoped to get a chance. BTW, I live across the street from his alma mater, Theodore Roosevelt High School.

We've already had an actor as President. That went fairly well, why not another?

Jesse's gotten a little crazier since then. Actually, a lot.

I met the guy about a year ago. Wouldn't vote for him at this point.

I know what you mean, I thought last elections Republican candidates were pretty bad, and I had high hopes after the 2010 Midterms. It's a brutal business though, and unfortunately I think the most ambitious cross the finish line, not necessarily the best suited.

I don't know a whole lot about Rand Paul, but would like to see our country go into more of a Libertarian direction.

I would to a certain extent.

At first I liked Herman Cain, but then his reputation took a beating, and then he went and quoted Pokemon or something. Probably did a couple other stupid things I can't remember too.

Sorry, can't agree to that. Once you have a dictator, HE tells you what to do. I'm sure he would listen to your 10-year plan too.

I just remember his conspiracy theory show.

That's where the disclaimer kicks in- there's other choices beside the ballot box to get rid of dictators.

Yeah well that idea is a little out there for my liking.

Ahh, it's just fun to consider. I don't really advocate dictatorship (unless it's an election year).

You must REALLY like your candidates.

I'm going to vote the same way in the next election as I did in the last. In fact I am voting this way every time. And I recorded it for posterity. Please excuse the poor quality. It was the first time attempting it. It was a cheap phone, and I spent the previous night swilling cheap vodka, so I was inebriated, to say the least.

And please, its NSFW!!

I voted! 11 6 12 - YouTube

ETA: So go out and do the same. You'll feel better, I promise.

Other nations have tried this....
We must learn from them....Whatever happened to our education ?
A government by, for, and of the people can never be "efficient" .

I am one of those people who would prefer that congress just play golf and practice enough to join the pga tour. They DO WAY too much to us already.

I would make an excellent benevolent dictator. So, if you want a better world: Specklebang For Dictator 2016. I'm easy to please and with 3 cats in the White House, you'll see a much better future.

If you'd rather live in a dictatorship, then there are plenty to choose from.

Or, just stay here and let the government do what governments do when no one is paying attention, getting bigger and more powerful. Sooner or later, we'll be a dictatorship too.

independent? absolutely, and this would be my preference. anything we can do to give competition to the duopoly is a net benefit.

Ventura? no.

I voted 'Yes' and 'someone other than besides R or D' --- though I probably would not vote for Ventura. I'd have to take a better look as his record in Minnesota.
