Quayle is far smarter than most people could understand. Because most people bought into the media's nonsense. One of my good friends from college-who went on to clerk for the USSC (Blackmun) and is now a law professor at a school in Chicago thought Quayle was stupid until she worked for some liberal dem senator and had to deal with Quayle on an almost daily basis

Its like the media portraying Gerald Ford as clumsy and inept when SI rated him the best athlete to ever be in the WH. Ford was an all american level football player who had top college grades. He was hired at Yale to coach football but asked the dean if he could attend law school. THe dean let him take a couple classes and when he earned top grades he was admitted.

I knew SS agents assigned to Ford's detail. They had to be college level tennis players and expert level skiers because Ford was a excellent tennis player and skier and wanted agents who could hang with him on the courts and the slopes

yet SNL and others made him out to be bumbling because if you put a camera on someone 40 hours a week you will find him stumbling or falling while skiing

Liberals have an inferiority complex and they always attack those who are better than they are. Be it Ford, Quayle, Palin, etc. The Democrats are going to have a big problem of ever bashing Nixon again after Obama.

Very few Americans realise if it weren't for Quayle when he was in Congress, there would be no GPS today. It was Quayle who got the appropriations bill through Congress for the R&D and deployment of GPS. So any time anyone uses their GPS in their cars or on their cell phones, think of Dan Quayle.

From what I understand the reason G.H. Bush picked Quayle as his VP running mate was just not his expertise in high tech and high tech weapons platforms but his expertise in nuclear disarmament. Quail was no dummy, he had his expertise and the Democrats had no equal.

Josie's thread gave me the idea for this one. It's a little funny, to me, when someone says Sarah Palin's dumb because of things she's said but Biden seems to get a complete pass on stupid **** he says all the time (and yes, I know, my partisan bias is showing).

So, who do you think is dumber?

Choices will be;
Sarah
Joe
Both are equally dumb
Neither are dumb

I think that should cover it. Adding poll now.

I have followed Biden through his senate career, he isn't dumb but does suffer from foot in mouth disease every so often. Palin is harder for me, I never heard of her until McCain nominated her as his VP. She didn't seem too smart then. Since then she in some instances she has come across as a dizzy blond, but I am sure she too has a head on her shoulders or she wouldn't have been governor of Alaska. Let me put it this way, I would be a lot more at ease with Biden sitting in the White House than Palin.

I will admit I voted Bush/Quayle in 1988 because to me Dukakis seemed like a dunce and I never trusted anyone from MASS on the political scene. Well, with the exception of JFK and Paul Tsongus. But if the Dems ticket had been reversed, Bensen/Dukakis with Loyd at the top, I would have voted for Bensen. Quayle always struck me as one of the better senators, so I will not say anything bad about him. Sometimes perceptions are about as far from the truth as Venus is from Mars.

I also voted for Bush/Quayle in 88 but I didn't vote for G.H. Bush during the Republican Presidential primaries. In fact the last Republican I voted for in a Presidential primary who won the Republican nomination was Reagan in 1980 and 84.

I was never a fan of G.H. Bush or G.W. Bush. But I would say no other President could have pulled off the First Persian Gulf War like G.H. Bush did. He was highly qualified to be POTUS in 1988. He's probably the only person in America who could have organised a multinational coalition during the First Gulf War. In reality I believe just the USA and the UK could have fought that war with the same results. Every other nation involved was just extra baggage.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but back in 1988 America was doing pretty good. By 1988 you could see the light at the end of the tunnel and we were about to win the Cold War. I know I was doing pretty good, by 1988 I was making money in the six figures.

But what I observed back in 1988, that then President Ronald Reagan wouldn't endorse G.H. Bush until after Bush won the Republican nomination. Then on that night when Bush excepted the nomination he told the American people "you don't change horses in the middle of the stream." It sold and he picked up the Reagan Democrats vote.

I'm not sure, but I think Reagan like me wasn't a big fan of G.H. Bush. I still haven't figured out if G.H. Bush was a moderate Republican or a neoconservative ? I know Reagan surrounded himself with many former liberal Democrats who came under the GOP tent as neoconservatives.

The Dukakis tank scene sure back fired.

Oh really? What could Obama possibly do to beat this?
LiveLeak.com - Nixon Prolonged Vietnam War to Win Presidency
It is true. Nixon purposely sabotaged the 1968 peace agreement that was negotiated by LBJ's administration, by secretly going to the North Vietnamese and telling them he could give them a better peace agreement if they waited until after the election. The war continued, and because of that Humphrey lost to Nixon. The agreement broke down under the new administration and the war raged on for at least FIVE MORE YEARS.
NIXON, BECAUSE OF HIS SELFISH POLITICAL AMBITIONS, IS PERSONALLY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATHS OF 21,366 AMERICAN TROOPS AND UN-CALCULABLE THOUSANDS OF SOUTHEAST ASIAN DEATHS BETWEEN 1968 AND THE END OF THE WAR
Nixon is without comparison the most immoral scum sucking despot the presidency will ever see.

Partisan hackery will never make the first female speaker of the house seem stupid. She passed more legislation through her tenure than any man has in that office.
Your bias here tells a lot more about you than Nancy.
So it seems. But Buck, you'll have to pass judgement after you see the content. Until then, you've just got to take her word for it. You know the biggie, the ACA, doesn't seem to be holding up all that well. I hate it when that happens.

Once again your comments tell us a lot more about you than Pelosi or the ACA.
Thank you for being so transparent.

You're quite welcome. And thank you, as well. I love this.

With this logic, you must think Paris Hilton is a genius.

Hey, hey, think we got us a winner... one of the ones Joe may just have gotten through to...eh?

Would have to ask though, are you making a relative statement there? To wit, if Paris Hilton were a democrat, would she then be considered a genius ranked against the norm? One to deeply ponder there, one might suppose...

Both of those men had far higher IQs than 90% of the people on this board

especially anyone who actually believes a guy who graduated from Yale Law school is dumb
Since we're looking specifically at national politicians, yes, these people are dumb. The SHOULD be the "best of the best" so to speak considering we're talking about maybe 10k people out of a nation of 350,000k. When they fail to measure up they get laughed at and rightly so.

I think anyone who believes any politician is, in general, dumb probably does meet your standard for stupidity themselves.

((BTW - I voted for Bush in '88.))

I don't think either is reall 'dumb'.

Palin just uses dumb arguments and Biden says dumb things.

As far as I remember 1988 was a very good year. As for Bush SR. or as I like to call him Bush I, he was an establishment Republican which could be translated as a moderate to liberal Republican. More in the Rockerfeller mode or even a Bill Scranton. Tell you the truth, I do not remember who was running in the GOP primaries back then. Our senator at the time Sam Nunn was weighing a run for the Democrats, but the Democrats said he was too conservative and talked him out of it. I do not think I ever forgiven the Democratic party for that. I really think that was when Georgia started to turn into a red state although that wouldn't be completed until 2002. We were strickly democrats back then, if I remember correctly prior to 1988, the only time Georgia voted for a Republican Presidential Candidate was Goldwater in 64 and Nixon in 72.

I think you are correct, Bush I is the only person that could have gotten all those countries together. I think the Saudi's were important, most of the others were just eye wash.

One thing about Sarah Palin and her husband, they were able to afford to be able to raise five children. I question someones intelligence when they have more children than they can afford to raise and have to become dependent on government to help them to pay for raising their children. That's a clear sign of being dumb.

I'm just talking about anyone wanting to have 5 children, whether they can afford it or not. That's 4 more than 1. :2razz:

its like dems who call Clarence Thomas (who graduated in the top half of his Yale law class-a bit better than slick willie did) stupid yet they lionize Thurgood Marshall. Marshall was a good HS student who graduated in the top third of his class and top of the far weaker howard Law school. But academically CT was the more accomplished man

its also funny how dems whine about the wealthy yet so many dem icons got to where they were purely on family power. Ted Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi are two obvious icons of the dem party. Both of them were academic bench sitters with Kennedy having been suspended by harvard for cheating and little mafia princess pelosi going to a fourth rate finishing school for intellectually dim catholic girls

Both had impressive resumes. Both were chosen because they were black. in both cases the dems made that choice

I've always liked Sarah and think she has an incredible amount of moral courage....exactly what's lacking in most politicians. Most people wouldn't admit that even if they felt the same way, it's just not worth having some moron attack you. But when there was a shot that Sarah may run for President, as she was taking her east coast trip, her supporters lit up Politico and the trolls were flushed out. That was a nice day. Another good day was when all of the trolls were waiting with baited breath for Sarah's emails to be released. That was hilarious:2rofll:

I agree that she has a lot of courage. She sure didn't have an easy time.

Actually, Sara handled herself quite well and I don't remember ever seeing her actually get upset. I don't know how many of us could say the same if so many people and news outlets were bashing one of us constantly.

Based on that logic, would that not actually make Biden the smarter one? I mean, would you not consider it smarter, if he went for the party with the absolute sheer numbers in that department?

Harvesting Democrats for money is a much harder tactic. It takes some pretty outrageous **** to get the bulk of them to open up their wallets.

Palin can harvest the idiots of the Republican party with relatively few words.

Granted, that really doesn't tell us if one is smarter than the other though. Biden could be argued to be smarter as not to try because it's much harder and Palin could be argued to be smarter because she saw the greater potential of profit.

CT was picked by Reagan.

CT was picked by Reagan.

not true. It was Bush but only after Lee Liberman and Peter Keisler (Federalist society founders-then WH Counsel) were told by George Mitchell (Senate Majority leader) that TM's seat on the Supreme Court was a "black seat" and any NON Black chosen by GHWB would be "BORKED"
