While he deserves the death penalty, that choice is silly and unrealistic. Though, let the records show that I think he deserves the death penalty.
If you strike me down, I'll become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

Explain why you think it's silly and unrealistic.

Because, in today's society, no legal system, and not many people are going to say someone needs skinned and crucified. So, while I think he does deserve to be executed, skinning him is inhumane, for the person having to do the skinning.

Yup, as fun as it was, the days of tarring and feathering, riding people out on a rail, quartering, etc. are over.

So the details specified in the poll are what you find silly, not the actual death penalty for him, right?

Try him for his crimes and execute him like any other criminal. Didn't vote in the poll because I don't think he should be skinned alive or crucified.

Or just send his ass to Abu Ghraib like the terrorist he (allegedly) is.
I love the NSA. It's like having a secret fan-base you will never see, but they're there, watching everything you write and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that I may be some person's only form of unconstitutional entertainment one night.

No problem with the death penalty. Just the specifications of the poll.

I'm not ready to say he is or isn't a terrorist, though the line of reasoning suggests that he is.

Re: Fate of the Boston Bomber

I think it will depend on the details that emerge about how the bombing came about. I have no problem with the death penalty in principle, though I do think we mis-apply it. If it turns out he was a young and impressionable kid who was cajoled/persuaded, or especially threatened/brainwashed, by his older brother, then I'd be inclined to let him live. If he turns out to have had an equal hand in the motivation of the bombing, then I think the case is less clear.

It's all too easy to call out "blood for blood." But this is a bronze-age system of morality. How many prophets, whom we regard as wise and admirable, have to tell us to drop such a system before we start to believe them?
