Ya see? Here in the real world, Obama doesn't get to wear the laurel wreath for killing UBL and then become totally immune of any responsibility for Benghazi.

When you're in command, command! Commanding means eating the crap, just like you eat the candy. What'd Obama do? He lied about why the attack happened. Why did he lie? Because he knows he was derelict in his duty. Dereliction of duty is a crime.

Are you STILL jealous Obama got Osama bin Laden?

The US had almost no involvement. Nor would Libyans take it well if a bunch of Europeans showed up and tried to organize their country well. The "end game" is to let Libyans determine their own fate, and supply support if they ask for it.

And really, this claim is just an attempt to co-opt the massive failure by Bush to properly handle the regime changes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

No, it isn't. The focus is almost entirely on the Blame Game and the alleged cover-up, not detailed methods to figure out how to protect diplomatic missions without turning them into miniature fortresses.

The reality is that there will always be a balancing act between security and openness for such establishments. As the GAO reminds us, as long as we have any government presence in a volatile region, there's always the possibility they could be attacked. Nor is it beneficial to turn them into miniature fortresses -- unless you think nothing says "diplomacy" better than high concrete walls topped with concertina wire, tire spike strips, a couple of machine gun nests and a tank (for good measure).

Even if we could, there are plenty of other non-governmental "soft targets" in highly volatile regions. If they hadn't gone after a diplomatic mission, they would have gone after an oil field or a hotel that caters to foreign journalists.

This is not about safety. It's about elections.
Sept. 12: Libya’s deputy ambassador to London, Ahmad Jibril, tells the BBC that Ansar al-Sharia was behind the attack. The little-known militant group issues a statement that says it “didn’t participate as a sole entity,” neither confirming nor denying the report.

Sept. 12: Citing unnamed “U.S. government officials,” Reuters reports that “the Benghazi attack may have been planned in advance” and that members of Ansar al-Sharia “may have been involved.” Reuters quotes one of the U.S. officials as saying: “It bears the hallmarks of an organized attack.”......snip~

[UPDATE - Rep. Trey Gowdy also revealed an email sent on 9/12 in which Assistant Sec. Jones confirmed to a Libyan official that the attack had been carried out by terrorist organization Ansar al-Sharia].

    How about the CIA?

Washington (CNN) -- Former CIA Director David Petraeus testified on Capitol Hill Friday that the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, in September was an act of terrorism committed by al Qaeda-linked militants.

The former CIA chief has said there was a stream of intelligence from multiple sources, including video at the scene, that indicated Ansar al Sharia was behind the attack, according to an official with knowledge of the situation.

"She knew at that point and time that al Qaeda was very likely responsible in part or in whole for the death of Ambassador Stevens," he said, intimating that Rice should have said that.....snip~

Which that changes nothing about Team Obama misleading the American people.....nor changing up those terms over Terrorists.

Fascinating. Do you think that perhaps higher command had something to do with that, or was your unit commander just off on a wild tear?\\

From my understanding those four people were needed in Tripoli as they feared an attack and it would be too late to get to Benghazi to do any good.
Then your understanding is incorrect - as we had both the personnel and the time to cover both locations. Heck, a team of diplomats made it, much less SOF.

THAT is currently the million dollar question. We know that the SECSTATE was getting live updates, and that State had command of the situation, so I would bet either her or someone next to her with her direction. But we don't know (yet). But I would bet it's going to come out.

there has been two wars going on 24/7 most of the time he has been in office, adn I dont think GWB lost much sleep either. I seriously doubt he went to sleep during the crisis, when I first heard anything like that it was Rush doing a skit that obama went to his room and wouldnt come out becaue he was mad. Then it kinda got incorporated into the RW spin.

I don't "know" that Obama was actually asleep, and I certainly didn't hear it from Limbaugh because I don't listen. We do know there weren't any phone calls back and forth, so at least figuratively he was asleep. Could he have been playing with his twinkie? One never knows.

I heard it, while he was still in shock from losing the election. Funny how that skit made it into the RW propaganda machine. It really should be embaressing.

I'm not that easily embarrassed. For all he did, Obama may as well have been asleep. Was he? I don't know, and I really don't care. All kinds of horse crap makes it into the propaganda of political discourse all the time, and both sides do it. It's very easy to attribute motive to any speech or action. It's not so easy to develop a really good lie, though. It took 12 revisions to develop a bad one, so just imagine what could've been required for a good one.
