The United States of America fell about forty years ago.

i disagree, it fell 100 years ago in 1913

16th amendment.....allowing citizens income to be taxed........"the power to tax is the power to destroy"...this gave government power over the citizen, something the founders did not.

17th amendment.....senators being directly elected by the people, moving america closer to democracy, and away from republican government which the founders created, and removing the states voice in our federal government.

the federal reserve act, this took money out of the hands of the people, and placed in into the hands of a private bank, which we have never had a full audit on, and they have reduced the value of the dollar before 1913 from $1.08 cents, to today ..which is under 4 cents in value.

April 27, 2011....devastating tornadoes ripped through this state...did communities wait for FEMA to start rebuilding? HELL NO. They were helping, and rebuilding on April 28th. By the time FEMA came around...a lot of communities had no need for them at all.

So I could see rural areas becoming self-sufficient and becoming large communities with self-governance. Big cities, however, will be just as you said. Riddled with hardship. I wouldn't want to be there at all. I don't mind living within a couple hours of a major metro area, but that is about as close as I want to get.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. I'm seeing a few younger generation members who seem interested in the concept of self-sufficiency. My son is building a house out here on my acreage, and he wants to get chickens, a couple of cows (one per year for slaughter), and a good sized garden going. His current gf, who will likely be his wife eventually, is all about that lifestyle. Some of the younger generations are realizing that all our government debt and the changes in the economic outlook, with a shift in the employment opportunities, means that there will be necessary changes coming.

The very fact that you brought up acceptance of "non-traditional" marriage as a sign that our country was perhaps doomed shows you are not to be taken seriously by anyone sane.

We're not on a self destructive path, we're on the same path we've always been on. People still want to come here because we are great, once they stop trying then we should worry.

Re: Do you think the USA will soon fall?

Nations fall for a number of reasons. When subcultures within a nation reach irreconcilable differences, it can result in civil war and secession. If the populace becomes disenchanted with the leadership, it can result in lower participation in the military, causing the loss of international influence.

If gay marriage is an influential factor in the decline of the United States, likely factors would include conservatives withdrawing from society, and participation in the military, without a corresponding increase from progressives. If additional wedge issues cause irreconcilable differences between subcultures, then civil war and secession becomes more likely.

In the big scheme of things, the current state of gay rights in this country is little reason for either side to be that pissed off. It would likely only become a bigger factor if either side were able to impose their philosophy on the other without recourse. Arguing that the current state of gay rights is a direct cause of the current decline of our society (if it is indeed declining), is dumb.

Fall? No. Merge? Yes. As globalization persists and economies become even more interdependent a unified global economy embracing 1 set of rules and 1 set of standards is inevitable.

For all intents and purposes the US will be nothing more than one geographic location of a wider economic-political construct.

Re: Do you think the USA will soon fall?

Fall is a badly placed word. Decline is the right word. Will the USA decline with respect to its international peers in the future? Will China become the dominant player in the near future? Will the rest of the world eventually change the reserve currency to something other than the US Dollar? Is the US Military really capable of keeping the rest of the world playing the game with American rules? Honestly, I think the rules of the game are about to change and the US isn't going to like the new game, yet may be powerless to stop it. So, yes I see a decline in the importance of the US on the world stage.
