I thought for a second you were gonna start talking about rationing and death panels and stuff...What criteria did the study use to define "held in ambulance?" did it count drive times? hospitals on diversion? were patients ever taken to hospitals that accepted their insurance and how was this time counted? how was this data collected? How does it compare the the US system. That is the cool thing about science, one can look at the data and the study and decide how reliable the findings are.
Rationing would be a reality and I've seen more than one UHC proponent say that not only will it occur, it should. When Dick Cheney got a heart transplant, several people commented on how a 70 something year old should never have gotten a new heart.

I happens in a greater degree now, with our system. That is what makes it less than truthful spin when the RWers say it.

Good to hear. I should be able to be on the insurance plan I want as well, right?

You know what health "insurance" denies more claims than any other? Medicare.

Having actually spent time in England, Liverpool, and spoken with a wide slice of brits from retired to 20 somethings, I envy the British system. When my wife had strep throat we were seen quickly and politely, when we attempted to pay at the end, as we unnecessarily explained we are Americans, the staff said no charge, even for yanks.

back in the states 'quality' healthcare seems a bit much of a claim, long wait times even with an appointment, hurried examinations, mumbled talk of tests, and out the door. Heaven help ya if you don't have insurance, you will spend all day waiting.

Expensive health care I'll agree with. But I guess quality, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder...

Insurance companies sell Supplemental Medicare, too, I have no reason to believe the same won't be true of the ACA plans. So, yeah, if you want to take the minimum ACA coverage and add more coverage by yourself that's up to you.

Even if you dont look at the studies and just think about the big picture logic alone indicates what the RW says about UHC is wrong. In the big picture there is not one single civilived country trying to get away from UHC and go to a system anything like ours. We are the only one left. That is what I often say there are a small number of consrevative Americans that know far more that the rest of the world about healthcare. (and a lot of other things)

It's just a different (and more radical!) form than it took decades ago when hospitals were first required to treat people in the ER. Many hospitals would put people in a taxi and send them over to the nearest shelter or publicly funded hospital. Prior to the 80's it was sometimes done when a hospital admitted a patient then found out their insurance was no good - but many people died in ER parking lots and waiting rooms, too, because the hospital knew right up front they didn't have insurance. This kind of BS is the main reason I stick up for UHC. I've seen first hand what happens when we don't have it and hospitals pick and choose their patients.
Agreed. UHC goes against almost everything I believe in, economics and free-market wise, but... after many years of discussing and reading the pros and cons, I have to make an exception. It would have issues of it's own, no disagreement there whatsoever, but I do believe it would be better than our present system in an overall sense.
