We had a Doctor in Las Vegas who ran a mass production colonoscopy clinic. Thing is, he didn't want to wate time or money on sterilizing anything. Eventually, he was caught and his staff eagerly testified against him.

His employees kept quiet for thousands of procedures.

So, yeah, there are some very bad medical people. I don't personally know anybody who hasn't heard of this Gosnell case, at least vaguely. I suspect it's all too common.

I have no idea if there are more, however I believe the more restrictions placed on women the more of these. "doctors" you will see. If abortion is made illegal, they will simply go underground..

Of course they are everywhere.

And what restrictions caused this doctor to behead babies?

Honestly, this is the first I've heard of this, which surprises me. I get print newspaper 7 days a week, I watch the news regularly and also check in with the news online often as well, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day.

"Pennsylvania, like other states, permits legal abortion within a regulatory framework. Physicians must, for example, provide counseling about the nature of the procedure. Minors must have parental or judicial consent. All women must wait 24 hours after first visiting the facility, in order to fully consider their decision. But Gosnell's compliance with such requirements was casual at best. At the Women's Medical Society, the only question that really mattered was whether you had the cash. Too young? No problem. Didn't want to wait? Gosnell provided same-day service".

So what is it you're saying, pb? That restrictions on abortions need to be eased even more?

The more you restrict it, the more they will go elsewhere, that's the unintended consequence.

And "going elsewhere" has the same results - the only difference is Gosnell was sloppy.

'Fundamental culture change' on abortion: Conservatives make gains on restrictions - U.S. News

Alabama enacted a law last week requiring abortion doctors to have permission to perform the procedure at local hospitals, challenging a practice under which clinics bring in physicians from out of town.

In Virginia, the Board of Health on Friday voted 11-2 to require abortion clinics to meet the same architectural standards required of new hospitals. Abortion-rights groups say the standard is clearly designed to be so costly that clinics will have no choice but to close.

40 years after Roe v. Wade, more states restricting abortion - U.S. News

Eight states now require women seeking abortion to have ultrasounds, after Virginia lawmakers passed a measure in 2012. Three states also enacted laws that require abortion providers to have admitting privileges at a local hospital, which can deny them for a variety of reasons.

Louisiana banned abortions after 20 weeks. Utah tripled its mandatory waiting period to 72 hours. A Montana ballot initiative mandated parent notification for abortions on minors under age 16.

In at least four states -- North Dakota, South Dakota, Arkansas, Mississippi -- there is only one clinic

What would be your "perfect world" approach to abortion? No restrictions at all? Or some? What would they be?

I would venture to say there are more like him.

I'm shocked that a case of a "doctor" killing children through means not even suitable for the harshest of criminals isn't more widespread in the media.

The only difference between Gosnell and other abortionists is the degree of sloppiness in Gosnell's methods. Other than that, he did not do anything different than what other abortionists do.

Actually, what he did was no different than what the anti-abortion rights moral fascists do - he didn't give a damn about life once it was born.

Ignoratio elenchi, also known as irrelevant conclusion, is the informal fallacy of presenting an argument that may or may not be logically valid, but fails nonetheless to address the issue in question.

Do you think there are more Kermit Gosnells in this country?

I don't know. What good can it do to speculate on matters without knowing wheher or not they are true?

If so, what should be done about this?

Arrest him and try him in court.

On the societal level, however, we all need to learn to think in original terms instead of allowing ourselves to be such partisan hacks that we allow evil rather than admit the other "side" has a valid point. If we would view the world according to values rather than labels, we would not create all these blinders we create out of our fear we might be ostracized from the group

Are you really?

He was unlicensed according to the article.

I tend to agree that more restrictions will lead to more of these kinds of things. Abortions won't magically go away because you make it illegal. Same with drugs...it will be readily available by nefarious means.

Don't be so naive as to think people will stop aborting...won't happen and cases like these will be a dime a dozen if abortion became illegal.

The lack of competition due to the fear of being murdered by the moral fascists on the right

LOL - aren't you the one always preaching about not using unsubstantiated emotional tripe in debate?
