No attack, Navy. Just legitimately curious. You've started a number of threads and polls on this very question. I imagine the responses will be largely the same. What is your extreme fascination with this issue?

That is like saying no attack and then call me and SOB. It does not compute.

It would be refreshing if the homosexuals would shift their focus from children's organizations such as the schools and Boy Scouts to adult activities such as the Rotary Club or Elks.

For some reason, I don't think we're going to see that shift in focus anytime soon.

Please give your opinion and no personal attacks.

Yes, I think that they should allow openly gay people to join the organization. However it's a private organization, and I believe they should be able to control who's allowed to join.

And if they choose to engage in discriminatory action excluding gays, they should lose their tax exempt status. You can't have it both ways.

That is your opinion.........They can and they will.........If your gay and want to join then join a troop that is all gay.

Morally Straight does not refer to homosexual/heterosexual. Should the boy scout exclude people who have engaged in adultery or people who have frequented prostitutes?

If they did that how would the BSA know?

That wasn't the question (though it's obvious NP is doing some baiting here). Lots of people do things that have no logical purpose, but that doesn't relate to whether or not said practice should be allowed or disallowed.

That is your opinion the BSA and a lot of people don't agree with you.

Huh? ... Rotary and Elks don't discriminate against gays by excluding them from membership.

Further - I am a former Boy Scout, as is my father (my scout master), as well as many members of my family. In total we have 6 Eagles Scouts in my family. I am also gay, and had I come out during the time I was a Boy Scout, I could have been kicked out of the scouting program. Although, that probably wouldn't have happen, given that the adult leaders in my troop also held seats on the local council, and I doubt they would have tried to discriminate against someone in their own troop.

Lastly, exactly why would that be "refreshing"? Do I or my family or my troop not exist in your world?

I don't think the Boy Scouts should hire either openly gay or openly straight people.

By that, I mean people who are in a position of trust in the Boy Scouts have no business expressing their sexuality to the kids whether they are gay or straight. That's not their job. Conversely, if any person hired is only doing their job, it shouldn't matter whether they are gay or straight.

Now...with the issue of protecting the kids from predatory adults, I think the Boy Scouts have a responsibility to ensure the safety of the kids whether it be from predation from gay, straight, male or female people in positions of trust.

You are right the problem is this poll is not about that.

That is not a logical reason.

Note that the question was not whether the Boy Scouts should have to allow gay people, but whether I think they should.

Your doing it again redress......That was not the question.....this is:

Should the boy scouts allow openly gay scouts and scoutmasters

OK, if the question is not "Do I think they should" then for whom or what does should refer?

Well, I answered your poll with a no, but I'm not against the Boy Scouts hiring gay people just as I'm not against the Boy Scouts hiring straight people...just openly gay people as well as openly straight people. If your poll had asked if the Boy Scouts should allow gay people in those leadership positions, I would have answered yes.

I did answer your question in my very first post. I then answered a followup some one else asked. We call that "having a conversation".

Ray your on a roll today my friend.

Can you explain the measurement of "openly" gay or "openly" straight?

Ray your on a roll today my friend.

What? In being wrong? Prove that the Rotary or Elks club discriminate, and then Ray might have a point. If they don't, then he doesn't.

No, I'm not a conservative.

No, just only concerned with yourself, your own supposed rights and comforts, just like most libertarians.

Excellent post and right on target. It is not the job of scoutmasters to discuss their sexuality.

Rotary Club does not discriminate against gays. Each local chapter is free to determine who can join.

Elks Club does not discriminate against gays.

Well done Ray, you are wrong again.

The Elks Club really don't want it broadcast it but gay's are welcome as long as they behave themselves and don't bring shame or attention to the family aspect of the Elks Club. You also must be an American, not a hyphenated-American.

Since everyone is held to the same standards and there are no special protections for certain groups of people and everyone has to behave, most gays would rather get involved with organizations like the Boy Scouts where they can misbehave and act like kids.
