Destroy their military, topple their government and let Korea be reunited and be done with it.

That's not our job to do. It didn't work in Vietnam, Iraq, or Afghanistan. Why the hell would you propose doing such a thing in NK?

The creation of a nuclear weapon required some action I would imagine. The testing of nuclear weapons required at least someone to flip a switch. Yes I favor a preemptive strike.

So all the other countries in the world have had adequate justification for attacking the USofA over the last 60 years then?

And because you have a gun in your house means you're going to use it so the police have justification to come in and get it and you as well?

Would you consider saying someone is going to kill somebody, getting out a gun, loading it and pointing at the person's head but he hasn't pulled the trigger "action-less words?"

If he's pointing that handgun at a head thats 500 yards away, I would highly question his capacity to make the shot. But I would still put him in my sights in case he tried.

I know what NK wants, but I also know the card they are playing. How many times are you willing to pay the extortionists? You are just helping prop up the failed government and maintain the same status quo that keeps so many people on the edge of starvation. Destroy their military, topple their government and let Korea be reunited and be done with it.

Do you honestly think that China will simply allow that? They were none too happy when South Korea was aided in 1950. What would the US do if China decided to take over Mexico which, after all, is an admitted basket case run by a corrupt gov't too.?

The real danger is, it is hard to predict crazy.
Kim Jong Un, having grown up with a dictator father and Yes men all around,
might begin to believe his own propaganda.

Whose "head" is NK pointing a loaded gun at?

Let's see.

1. America. The North Korean army said it has final approval to launch "merciless" military strikes against the United States, including the use of nuclear weapons. North Korean Army Claims It Has Final Approval for Nuclear Strike on US

2. South Korea. (CNN) -- North Korea has entered a "state of war" with neighboring South Korea, according to a report Saturday from the state-run Korean Central News Agency that included a threat to "dissolve" the U.S. mainland. State media: North Korea in 'state of war' with South Korea - CNN.com

3. Japan or possibly US Military installations there. Reuters reported early Friday that North Korea has placed two of its intermediate range missiles on mobile launchers and hidden them on the east coast of the country, citing a South Korean news agency.

What year did that happen?

I think 3 years ago. I'm not personally convinced he's had a Road to Damascus experience yet. Maybe I'm wrong but it looks like he's gotten worse.

The young Kim is doing exactly what a new totalitarian leader must do, to stay at the tip of the pyramid: he is projecting the image of a psychotic god nobody would ever dare to cross. Mostly, it is a show for internal consumption. But there's always a chance that things will spin out of control.

None of that's new stuff. Some is being refuted. Some sources say nothing is moving in NK as far as troops or tangibles.

NK has been making "threatening noise" for decades.

Why take it so seriously now?

Why not let Japan, China, Russia, and SK worry about their piss-ant little neighbor?

Why is it the USofA's fight?

Piss-ant? They have the fourth largest army in the world with 8 million reservists and enough artillery to kill millions in Seoul besides wiping us out on the DMZ.

Is NK a direct threat to the USofA?

I believe what's happening in North Korea represents an internal revolt against the new leader which will likely result in his ouster sometime in the next few months. When he came into power after daddy-dearest died, he fired a bunch of military leaders and it wouldn't surprise me if one or some of these are behind unrest in the military and Kim Jong Un is trying to portray strong military leadership in the face of a revolt.

It's possible, in such a situation, that mistakes will be made and missiles are launched in the confusion, but America shouldn't make the mistake of thinking this has anything to do with them - it's solely an internal struggle for power and survival.

So if they can't directly strike the US mainland with massive causalities they're a piss-ant? Besides Pearl Harbor the US had no other mainland strikes during WWII. Do you have any doubt that if they strike SK that American soldiers won't die on a large scale?

Kim is making it about the outside world in order to threaten his own people.

they are throwing the toys out of the pram! My biggest worry is that with communication breaking down between both sides that something very small could escalate very fast.

It's all for internal consumption, an attempt to show he's strong and he can make America jump. This is a perfect time for Obama to take a two week golf vacation in Hawaii.

I agree it's more about either controlling his generals, getting concessions from other countries and something we should mostly ignore but it could spin out. His people are starving on a regular basis and unless he gets concessions from others the Chinese won't feed them all. That will eventually lead to internal turmoil that spills out into the rest of the world.

You know damn well the latter two have nothing to do with a situation like this? Why did you mention them? Should I expect a Bush dig next?

:agree: I read an interesting article that stated that the Generals are the ones in charge now. The "leader" is too inexperienced to know what to do, but I don't believe China will sit idly by and not intervene. We shall see.

I'm all for bringing all our people home. I don't think we need anyone in foreign countries.

But besides that I don't believe NK has a suicide pact.

They're piss-ants in terms of their technology and ability to do much more than start their own complete and utter destruction.

We did not invade Iraq for self-defense.

I'll give you Afghanistan except that winning the hearts and minds of the native people is far from what we intended to do or have done.

Hint, hint...it's not working this time! Are people finally seeing the big picture? :2mad:

I doubt anything will happen. But I wouldn't underestimate their ability to cause massive casualties on SK, Japan and US troops. Plus we don't know how much China will back them. We never did beat them even back in the 50's, so I wouldn't count on a quick defeat.

So all the other countries in the world have had adequate justification for attacking the USofA over the last 60 years then?

Probably truth be told. But since we had the nukes and they didn't; it wouldn't have ended so well for them.

And because you have a gun in your house means you're going to use it so the police have justification to come in and get it and you as well?

Perhaps you have confused your medications as that makes no sense. If I had my gun pointed out the window threatening to kill the police, then yes they have justification to come in right after they blow me away which is what we should do to North Korea.
