For my part, two of my deceased uncles were gay. I also have had numerous gay friends and acquaintances over the years. One of my extended members is undergoing gender reassignment.
I had an uncle who tried hiding he was gay, but most of us knew. Weird was seeing who most of us knew was his lover at the funeral. My aunt had issues with it. She made like she didn't know what was up. Maybe that was best. They were pretty old-school.

Gay relatives: No. (That I am aware of)
    Gay friends: Yes.
Transgender relatives: No. (Again, that I am aware of)
Transgender friends: Friends, no. Acquaintances, yes. (Some of the funnest people I have ever known)
    Squirrel: Yes.

Relatives, nope because I don't have that many. Friends, a fair number. They are awesome wingmen.

I grew up without the realization they were gay. They were both married, one twice, so I didn't have that to consider, but, I did later take note that one lived with men ever after his last divorce and finally asked my mom if he was gay. "Oh heavens! I thought you knew!" LOL She taught me to accept people as they are and without making an issue of differences. Guess it worked and I nothing changed my opinion of them after I knew.

Their parents, as far as I know, never accepted that their sons were gay. It was never spoken of and the rest of the siblings, if any were anti-gay, never made an issue of it. No one ever boycotted a family reunion because they would attend.

It's possible some people would be comfortable coming out too. The percentages would make that very likely.

Re: Poll: Do you have gay relatives? Gay friends? Transgendered family/friends?

My wife has a gay uncle and I have a gay Cousin and Aunt. Wife's Uncle and his partner have been together about 5 years now which is how we all found out he was gay. Both of them are good dudes, and I have no issue hanging around them when they are in town. Although there jokes can get a bit raunchy! My Cousin has had several relationships in which none seem to last more than a couple months. No big difference than when she had boyfriends in the past. My Aunt is awesome. She would do anything for anyone. When I lived in California she was my favorite person. Very funny and loved the outdoors. I don't get to see her much anymore since we live so far apart and both have to work.

All in all I see they have the same troubles we all have. With relationships, Money, Etc. I don't want to know what they do in their bedroom same as I wouldn't go around talking about what I do in mine.

I also have a lot of relatives that live in other parts of the country that I don't know, so I could have some gay relatives and I just don't know it.

Very true. I could have more. I have never met 9 of my first cousins. My mom was a change of life baby, so I'm very removed in age from them.
