Simple question. Should be a simple response.

Does the Tea Party have any relevance in today's political arena?

No. They had their moment of fame. I believe America is waking up to how nutty they were and how nutty their leaders were. They are back to becoming a "1 protest a year" group on tax day.

The Tea Party has never been relevant except to TV pundits

Not really. Obama did a good job at dispersing the movement.

He did some prestidigitation and raised everyone's taxes while invoking positive sounding terms like "universal health care". He deluded the masses.

Now they're all enamored and oblivious to Democrat politicking.

They're done.

They can't get people elected, they can't keep people in office.

What little energy is left in the movement has been appropriated by the hard right wing of the Republican party.

Yes they are relevant. If they weren't, so many people would not spend so much time trying to disparage them.

You've begun a poll on the Tea Party, and others have voted, so my answer is yes.

The Teaparty is similar to Perot and the reform party. A bunch of mainly old white people found something to get riled up about for a while, but lost energy. Something new will come around in the next 5-10 years though.

They're relevant as a pop culture symbol more than as a political force.

they're running my state, so I guess so.

if you're asking about 2016 nationally, my guess is not as much. the anti-gay marriage and "deport them all" platforms will be largely ignored nationally, because the Republicans got smoked on them.

I think destroying the Republican party is relevant to the political landscape, and the Tea Party is helping do that. GO TP.

We have like 10 threads about the TP this week.

The proper question might be: "is the TP too damn relevant!"

They weren't relevant during the 2010 midterms elections?

Not from my perspective. They are just conservative republicans by another name. They were here before. It would be like the liberal college crowd calling themselves the Sundance Party. They are no different than they were when they were just the liberal college crowd. but pundits have something to yammer on about.

The Tea Party, or in other words less government/lower taxes, is still relevant.

As the 2014 midterms draw closer, the Tea Party will become extremely relevant to the Republican candidates who want to be elected and re-elected. If it wasn't for the overwhelming Tea Party wins in 2010, Obama would have been able to completely destroy the United States by now. Everyone can see how much Boehner wants to surrender, who do you think is keeping the heat on him?

If the Tea Party wasn't a source of fear to the loons, we wouldn't have seen this thread or the responding loons dismissing it out of hand. The loons have been dismissing Sarah Palin since she first appeared on the scene, yet they remain absolutely terrified of her and the American values that she represents. It is the same with the Tea Party.

This thread is testimony to the truism that the Liberals will always tell you who they are afraid of.

The Republicans had a huge victory in 2010, due in large part to the energy that the Tea Party movement brought. The Conservative philosophy and the Tea Party movement are two different things. The Tea Party movement is a Conservative/Libertarian related philosophy personified, and people voted in 2010 out of excitement and hope for the candidates they've always wanted. The Tea Party was almost dormant in 2012 because Mitt was very moderate, and most couldn't get excited enough to vote for him. I think Mitt was kind of a buzz kill for the local races as well.

Other, as they have only made a splash among the conservative base. But I think they have managed to splinter the Republican party. I don't see this splintering ending anytime soon either. :duel

Though I have and will continue to disparage the OWS, and I considered them far from politically relevant.

The Tea Party is relevant, as they are still decent numbers, albeit fading strength.

Just watch and see how much relevance it has in 2014. :lamo

I agree that is how the TP is most relevant.

The left is puttering out. We'll see who rises in 2014.

I think the Tea Party is a force today, but the elections of 2012 have weaken them some. I do not think they will ever be the force again that they were in 2010.

I disagree here, without the tea party the GOP would have never been able to take back the House in 2010. The tea party was very relevant to that election. But they have weaken somewhat, still a force to be reckoned with, but on a steady decline.

And I bet all of them were started by people who don't like them.
