Somewhat. Not as much as they used to.

That is fine, but I still think they are republicans and the "lesser of two evils" ubber conservative dems and independents.

Of course they are. Look who won the CPAC straw poll. The same person gave the Tea Party response to Pres Obama's State of the Union address.

The tea party as you see it with the social right win is irrelevant. The tea party of 2008 which became the Liberty movement for Libertarian minded Republicans is very much relevant.

The Tea Party was demonstrating at the Federal Building where we were also demonstrating about 5 years ago. We talked, had civil discussions with several of the Tea Party demonstrators. It was very interesting. Their leadership understood and could project what the results would be from a successful Tea Party agenda; but, their demonstrators had no clue as to what the result would be. In particular the post-Vietnam vet poisoned by disposing of Agent Orange and now owing about $90,000 for the last hospital visit ... The Tea Party is losing these members over time.

Unfortunately not on a national level. State and local, yes.

Yes, they are relevant but then mostly in a negative way. They will alienate more and more moderates from the Republican party.

Re: Is the Tea Party Relevant Anymore?

I heard on television that the "official" Tea Party hasn't made an "official statement" or updated their website since July 2012.

I do not know that to be true as I can't say I have ever been to their site.

I think that, as for an "official," organized political party, the Tea Party is pretty much kaput. However, the ideology, the banner to gather around, still lives on in the outer right fringes of American society.

Re: Is the Tea Party Relevant Anymore?

Once the morons like Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Sarah Palin, Michelle Backmann, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry and that ilk got "connected" to the Tea Party they lost all hope of being a formidable influence on things beyond just being a splinter group.

It's a shame to because the initial idea was sound and reasonably understandable.

Once the radical religious nutters jumped on board and hijacked the party for their own self-promotion the tea party lost all credibility and any chance of being taken seriously by the swing-voting crowd.

Re: Is the Tea Party Relevant Anymore?

Quite relevant. Their strategy seems to be working, to an extent I still find surprising. If someone told me five years agio that people like Rand Paul, Christ Christie, Nikki Haley and Marco Rubio will be the new face of the GOP, I would laugh.

At some point, it appeared that the tea party movement is close to imploding, having been "adopted" by various opportunists ranging from bigoted to clownish - the caricature drawn by the joint effort of MSNBC and FOXNews could have become a self-fulfilling prophecy. But maybe not.
