Re: Was Invading Iraq the Right Choice?

In my view we should of not invaded Iraq or went to war with Iraq.
We were told that Saddam had connections to Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. That turned up to be a giant lie. We were told that he was a direct threat to us. He was not a threat to us, he never killed a single US citizen. We had contracting evidence on his WMD program. It was supposedly "a war on terror" and we "were fighting terror", but look at Iraq now (a country that before we invaded never had a single suicide bombing), now is averaging at least one terrorist attack a day.
With over 500,000 Iraqis dead (some estimates up to over a million), a estimated 4,500 Americans dead and numerous others it was not worth it. Not worth it at all. The country is still in shambles and some say still in a civil war. Its a failed state and a unstable state. The Iraq War was simply not worth it, and some say based on a lie.

This is not a yes or no answer......When we invaded Iraq everyone thought that had WMD and the Senate almost voted unanimously to approve the invasion that included a bunch of Liberals...Now people like you are playing Monday Morning QB criticizing the decision.

There have been some good things that came out of the invasion:

    1. We don't have to ever worry about WMD

    2. Saddam won't be killing his own people anymore

    3. Saddam and his sons won't be raping and murdering teenage girls again.

    4. there is a Government although a shaky one........At least we gave them a chance...What they do is up to them now.

I mourn the loss of every GI that was killed there.

I could go on and on.

Not that we had anything to worry about anyway.

I mourn the loss of every GI that was killed there.
Yet it doesn't anger you that they basically died for nothing... as there were no WMD's, not even a potato gun...

And don't give me this "Oh well Iraq is better off now" because that's bloody debatable.

Saddam was a bad guy, and I'm glad he met his fate but life for the average person in Iraq is pretty damn bad either way, sectarian violence has made their lives a living hell.

I knew an Iraqi girl who's dad was murdered by militants following the invasion.

The democratic party was split on the decision. 21 out of 50 dems voted against the resolution.

Right cuz there were no damn WMDS!

    2. Saddam won't be killing his own people anymore
We really could care less about dictators killing their own people. We were supporting him at one point when he was killing his own people and we have supported numerous other tyrants that kill their own people as well.

A shaky one? More like a failed state

You call 77 to 23 "almost unanimous"?
    United States Senate
    Party----------------Ayes---- Nays-------No Vote
    Republican -----------48-------1------------0
    Democratic-----------29------21----------- 0
    Independent-----------0-------1------------0
    TOTALS-----------77------23------------0
And, as it turns out, the "bunch of liberals" voted against it.
    21 of 50 Democratic senators voted against the resolution: Sens. Akaka (D-HI), Bingaman (D-NM), Boxer (D-CA), Byrd (D-WV), Conrad (D-ND), Corzine (D-NJ), Dayton (D-MN), Durbin (D-IL), Feingold (D-WI), Graham (D-FL), Inouye (D-HI), Kennedy (D-MA), Leahy (D-VT), Levin (D-MI), Mikulski (D-MD), Murray (D-WA), Reed (D-RI), Sarbanes (D-MD), Stabenow (D-MI), Wellstone (D-MN), and Wyden (D-OR).
1 (2%) of 49 Republican senators voted against the resolution: Sen. Chafee (R-RI).
The only Independent senator voted against the resolution: Sen. Jeffords (I-VT)

So Navy you think its bad to look back at history and see if we got it wrong or last? You know the old saying "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it"? Or should we live up to the ignorant mentality of "my country right or wrong"? Oh but wait i forgot in your book its "my country right or wrong (*as long as its a republican in the oval office*)".
