The Citizenship chip is the only answer, I think. It ought to satisfy even the most paranoid right winger.
If they dont officially renounce it, then the the US still considers them a citizen and they could vote. If you want to conclusively prove someone is a citizen, then yes, a passport would have to be checked for validity. The govt already has a database for this.

Obviously...I don't see how a sound argument could be made to say you don't have to prove it.

Then what about non-citizens who drive a car? A friend of mine is from Russia, just became a citizen, but he definitely drove prior to becoming a citizen.

Perhaps you want to talk about some kind of federal "citizens ID," which may not be a bad idea. A driver's license, however, just means you can drive a car.

What am I dodging? I want to know if mind being disenfranchised, since according to you it's not as important as owning a gun.

BTW, I've already said in this tread that if you want to have voter ID, fine. It'll be as just as effective as most gun control laws, so if your aim is to stop fraud, you're going to be very disappointed.

And again, voting is a privledge that has to be granted, so its much easier to deny someone because they dont meet the requirements. Which is why fraud is not widespread. On the other hand, people have a right to guns, which are common, and therefore can not easily be denied. Liberals claim voting fraud isnt a problem and gun ownership is, therefore I would say protecting voting is much more effective.

Protecting voting is fine, but I think asking for ID would be ineffective in most cases of electoral fraud. There is such a thing as fake ID....a little coordinated effort with decent resources behind it and there you go. Now, I can think of 2 groups that have the resources and the ability to launch a coordinated effort and they also have a vested interest in the result of the election. Can you guess what those groups are called?

WHich is why the whole topic is about how you should prove you are a citizen. An ID is not proof.

That's the problem, though. It's supposed to just mean a person can operate a motor vehicle, but it's over abused as a general proof of ID. As long as it's used for that, I don't see a problem with adding a restriction code on DL's that state said operator isn't a citizen.
I love the NSA. It's like having a secret fan-base you will never see, but they're there, watching everything you write and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that I may be some person's only form of unconstitutional entertainment one night.
