"Midget pickles"

Er...I vote no.

and here I was wondering why my local grocery store was selling "wee folk" pickles.

A real nice mod said she would fix the poll for me. It did not work for me.

I wonder what she's gona do when she comes across an MG Midget? There are thousands of them and tens of them on Ebay. Mini is already taken by Morris. (Which by the way is a subsidary of the same company.)

I remember Stimie from the little rascals used to call them "fidgets".

Does the Vlassic Stork offend people who are sterile or gay who will not be having kids?

(Pickle Threads make me miss Wake :boohoo: )

You shouoldn't mention Vlassics, Fisher.

Do what???????

You don't think so? I do. Here's a mom with a child afflicted with something for which "midget" is a derogatory term. She wrote the company, pointed it out and asked them to change it. They did. She didn't threaten a lawsuit...she didn't rant and rave...she made a request. Someone saw that the term could be (actually is) hurtful to a very small segment of our population. And they made the decision to change it.

They won't sell one less jar of pickles...that's a good decision, in my opinion. Did they have to? Of course not. Could anyone fault them if they ignored her request? Hardly. But did they choose to change it anyway? Yep. And that's why I like it.

Edit: Wouldn't it be ironic if you thought their decision was retarded? ;)

I like this story. Common sense and empathy won out.
Then, no social conservatives were involved.
IMO, there is nothing derogatory about the terms - homosexual, man, midget, Negro, fat, insane, WASP, idiotic, and so many others.
People do lack sensitivity, this includes me.
I think that the food company did the right thing , I'll bet that their sales have increased with that bit of publicity.

At least they didn't change their names to Fetus Pickles.......

Anybody know how to get a hold of wake? pm, please.

The company can do as it chooses.

I hope they receive enough negative response to use "common sense" and change it back to midget.

Where is the "like" ?
Its one of those "win-win" scenarios....and man progresses.

Giving in to political correctness, or because someone is offended, is not progress.

The "Midget" was a product of the previous century.
Most men progress, but not all.
Mini - not a good name for a motor vehicle , I'd never buy one.
And neither is "midget" a good name , but it MAY have been , 100 years ago..
Things change , for most.

You couldnt resist the temptation could you?:)

I just find the whole notion of being offended by a commonly used word as......................... utterly ridiculus. Midget offensive? Really? Come on. I own british cars and one of the models the illustrious brits made wayyyyy back when was called the Midget. Its was cool little car. What, now they need to change the name of it? Really this whole offended thing is starting to get way overboard. Too many people think they should be catered to for free. People that want catering from me, better whip out the ole' pocket book and fork over a nice stack of high denomination american greenbacks.

The company was quite gracious, I will give them credit where due. Though I think they just weenied out.

I thought midgets and dwarfs were two different things. It's a little strange that "dwarf" is ok but "midget" isn't. Dwarf makes me think of Snow White.

Dwarf pickless it is then

Progress my pink pimplely hairy butt. Getting offended at the word midget is NOT progress. Far from it. More like regression. By the way they still make the Mini as in Mini Cooper which is a screaming little automobile.
