"Midget pickles"

A midget is a normally proportioned little person. A dwarf has disproportionate body parts.
 
For kicks, I'd actually like to learn the origins of why "midget" is an offensive word. I wonder if it started with wrestling, or if it had older roots than that.
 
Midget used to be an acceptable term. I guess "little people" is what is preferred now. :shrug:

A site I just found attributed its becoming a slur to P.T. Barnum days and his circus of midgets & freaks. 1800's.
 
In other news...the ACLU has contacted Pearl to change the name of their olives, from black, to colored. Much less derogatory. Pearl has yet to respond.
 
Is it just me, or is there something Freudian about the thread title?
