Is no White House tours like Jimmy Carter's no Christmas Tree lighting?

Apparently, they are still paying the person that organizes the tours - even though there are no tours.

She apparently makes around $100K per year, btw.

Of course this is just a stunt.

It's just Obama's childish way of trying to make the sequester - which he initially backed and signed into law, btw - seem more harsh then it is.

So Obama does a political stunt that he blames on a political stunt...and the dimmer bulbs of the left accuse the Republicans of a political stunt.

There's a clear intellectual vacuum in this thread.

Some people are so biased that they cannot accept that "their side" is acting like an angry teenager throwing a fit. They have to blame the Republicans because accepting the fact that Obama is pulling a political stunt is just unreasonable.

Of course, and this thread is the "who's who" of the usual suspects.

I thought the thread was worthy of discussion, even though WH tours are hardly a big deal. Now it's just poisoned from egregious stupidity.

Obama declaring due to the sequester (which limited how much the federal government can increase it's budget this year) that White House tours have to be canceled. This reminds of the historic Jimmy Carter declaring the White House Christmas Tree would not be lite due to a gasoline shortage - although electricity doesn't come from gasoline.

Does the stunt of the President declaring the government is too broke for White House tours remind you of Jimmy Carter's stunt of not lighting the White House Christmas tree? Is this the same stupid kind of stunt by a President?

If the government can afford to give away billions in foreign aid, let the navy waste millions in biofuel, interfere with other nations, spy on Americans then the government most certainly can afford white house tours.

I very strongly disagree.

The White House tours were a very big deal, for years, for buses of schoolchildren visiting DC. Why hurt the children the Dems care so much about...when it comes to funding the unions for education, apparently, but not seeing history firsthand? I suggest that using some of the money we're funneling overseas to countries that hate us could be better spent on White House tours!

No, they are not a big deal. Yes, they should be avail to the population, but they are not critical to american needs. I'd rather see the money spent on feeding the homeless. I noticed some talking heads on FOX said that they would put their own money in to open it back up. Why not feed people instead? Nawwwww... compassionate conservatives? yeah right!

Riiiight! ICE doesn't report to anyone, but are permitted to do what they want without questions from higher-ups? C'mon! :(

I was talking about the media. Of course, the media will say to the demographics what they want to hear.

Maybe Michelle can donate to the poor instead of going on multiple multimillion dollar vacations. Or is she exempt because she's a Democrat?

Im not gonna get in a pissing match with people over which side donates. We both know that both the right and left donate.
christ!

I just notice that you seem rather selective in your criticism. There's a reason why you won't get in the pissing match.

Yes it's a political stunt. The talk about White Tours even though the staff has not been fired or laid off and their have been several millionaires willing to fund the tours but all the awhile the White House doesn't talk about the cutting of Tuition Assistance to the active duty military.

What you posted has nothing to do with the president closing the tours. I was merely pointing out that a conservative/libertarian talking head said that they would pay to keep the tours running. I think feeding the homeless would be a better cause.

I wholeheartedly believe that you think feeding the homeless is a better way for Republicans to spend non-essential money.

no, im pointing out that it would be for the greater good to feed the homeless for those that want to send their own money to keep the tours open.
Dont get me wrong, the tours are nice, but i rather see the money go to the needy.

There are already very costly programs in place to feed the hungry and homeless. Over 50 million people are already on food stamps, and I don't know how many millions are getting rent subsidies...how much more do you think should be done?

But there are still people out there who haven't finished soaking the rich. Let them get more money for nothing, and then maybe it'll end.

  • The tour organizer still has her 100k job
  • Most tour guides are unpaid volunteers
  • The Secret Service Agents who had postings specific to tours are simply receiving new postings. They are being paid the same as when there were tours.

How exactly are they saving money by doing this?

I ALMOST asked that because I didn't know where the sunk costs were in doing tours, and which could be trimmed.

Good afternoon, Gipper.

What's going to happen when there just isn't the money available any more to continue? That is what worries me.

Hello...and there will always be rich people to soak as long as we live in a free market.

I mean, the market is still "technically" free...government just isn't. The problem is that the one true monopoly - government - reserves all rights to reach into your pocket at any time for any reason.

Yep! Sad, but true.

What I had in mind is what happens when interest rates start creeping up, and we might be paying one trillion dollars in interest alone. That could not be the best thing to happen to us. sarcasim intended.. :)

America has completely thrown in the towel on ever trying to balance the budget since Clinton left office. Granted, Bush wasn't quite as bad as Obama when it comes to discretionary spending, but he wasn't exactly trying to rein things in. We're on a runaway course now, and all you can do is cushion yourself for the crash.

Do they still do those? I guess the petty cash pot dried up.

My question is:

If he didn't how long would it take a Republican to bitch about the money being wasted on White House tours?!?

I think the GOP is only PO'ed because they didn't think of it first! :lamo
