Discipline and order? That's what you call the government and thugs having all the guns while the average Joe has a baseball bat? What does neutering the average citizen's protective power have anything to do with discipline and order? Will you be conducting mandatory formations and training in order to instill discipline?

It's another of those cases where you have to trust bureaucracies to determine who's sane. What could go wrong? Everything, of course. I know lots of allegedely sane individuals who should not be allowed a gun. They really want an excuse to shoot somebody so they can be a "tough guy." There are some mental issues that are a little difficult to define, and some insecurities and inadequacies, an inferiority complex for example, that carrying a gun cures. That's not good. I personally believe that the lack of adequate discipline in schools has raised a group of citizens that think they can do anything, and sometimes do.
 
I think the mentally ill and felons should be able to own guns.

LOL, and that's what instilled discipline? They were a bunch of rowdy individuals until you locked up the guns, at which point they straightened up and became soldiers? Is that really what you picture happening in the US?

We will need another 50 years of quality, thorough education(includes Bible study) for this to come to pass. The first step may have been taken....49 to go.

About what we have no; and with all the conservatives and libertarians milling about, I see nothing actually changing.

The problem, few men understand discipline, and when emotions take over, discipline is tossed out with the baby and her bath water.

I am for legislation that gives the mentally ill and felons their second amendment rights.

Absolutely Captainawesome....Lord only knows that mentally ill folks and felons need to protect their property, family, and self just like everybody else...right? After all, what's their's is theirs...and what's yours is theirs...

Oooh yeah, bible study, that's what our society needs. That way our kids can learn how to be intolerant and reluctant of change.

The mentally ill and felons should have have their constitutional rights.

Being depressed or having an oz of weed should not mean you a second class citizen forever.

So, I get it. You believe there is ZERO reason to prevent people from owning a gun who are documented as having say...extreme forms of mental illness...or people who commit crimes...even those who prefer using a gun to do commit crimes....
