In northern areas the time change keeps kids from standing in the dark along a highway waiting for the school bus, that's the only good reason for it I can think of.

Simple fix - start school one hour later. Problem solved.

That could conflict with working parents schedule that don't want to be gone as their kid waits for the bus.

Not buying that as the most reasonable excuse.

School starting an hour later and ending an hour later would put most kids in school at roughly the same times as parents are at work.

It'd actually blend the two schedules together better. In more cases than not is my guess.

Most parents like to keep an eye on the kids as they wait for the bus and like to leave after the kids are safely aboard. Sad commentary on the times we live in.

Re: Should we abolish the Time Change?

If kids are standing in the dark to get a school bus, and mine do and have, then starting school an hour later would still be starting it well before the "standard" 9-5 shift most adults work and therefore there's plenty-o-time for a parent to watch child get on bus safely.

It would also mean the child might not come home to an empty house which is something that's sure to be happening now with school starting so early.

It's a six of one, half dozen of the other issue.

the change to DST costs lots of loss work, fatalities, traffic accidents etc

its an obsolete idea that should be eliminated. we don't need people working in "victory gardens" after they return home from building tanks and machine guns and fighter planes

Which is why we should just leave the clocks where they are right at this very moment and never change them back.

Leave the "usable daylight" at the end of the day and leave the darkness at the beginning of the day.
