Anyway, Superfly definitely needs to get the WD Sentinel 16TB external drive. At 40GB/movie he can cram 400 bluray movies on there, and all for the ultra cheap price of $1,699.99.

I don't know - there has to be an easier way to do this. This is the digital age -- there has to be way to watch movies without the clunkiness of a thousand disks in your collection. When we moved, we gave away about a thousand movies to our kids because it was just too difficult to store them.
You do what we all do: wait for higher capacities to become more mainstream and buy them when the prices come down. I hadn't bought a flash thumb drive since 2008, paying about $25 for a 4GB drive. I had to replace it eventually and found a 32GB for $21.

Awww yeah. Of course you'd have to ignore that the hard drive capacity alone is at least twice what you're paying for the movies.

However, one can also use a VLC media player and acquire movies and tv shows online from bit torrent sites (Piratesbay is but one), and each movie takes approximately 1.37GB. It's not "blu ray", but it is "High Definition." It's all about personal preference.
Even high quality DVDs are at most 5 gigs and at least half that is add-on slop. Personally I don't find the difference between blu-ray and HQ DVD noticeable at all.

On average the DVD screener from the scene is available a day or two before it hits theatres.

Exactly. I never jump on the bandwagon when new media comes out. It's always too expensive. I wait 'til it gets cheaper - and it always gets cheaper.

I wonder if anyone has edactic, videographic memory. Stream a movie once and watch it forever in your own head. :p

You but the ease of dealing with it, and the fact that you don't have to store a thousand disks anymore. Just one piece of equipment, about the size of a small amp. Now - to get the $1700 LOL.

I know you aren't interested in changing out your collection, but Blurays don't scratch as easily. They have a heavy coating that protects them.
most blue rays are around 50 gigs, if you do a complete rip. But a high quality encode runs about 10-15 gigs, and can reach 1080 quality

a 1-2 gig rip isn't likely to be in HD

Just save all the bestest of the best for blue-ray (something you TRULY see yourself watching over 10 times in your life)

And cram all the dvd quality onto cheap harddrives if you own the movie. It also helps to have a super-vindictive person in the household that scratches up a blue-ray every time someone leaves it out or doesn't put it back in its case.
