Should willfully ignorant people be allowed to vote

Never. Ain't gonna happen. You guys lost your chance at stacking the court. Sorry...but sometimes you can say never.

Seems like to me that it is you are the one who wants to stack the court

Its not going to happen. Your one shot went out the window when Obama was re-elected. I think God daily that Obama was re-elected. If Romney had won, he would have appointed right-wing activist judges that would have altered our Constitution for the next generation. Obama's re-election protects the balance on the court for the next generation...and if he gets more than two more appointments, he could protect it for generations to come.

Everyone who votes should have a basic idea of the candidates stand on the issues and to round them up at bus station or on the street corner, and giving them a cell phone or some other gift to vote is wrong.

Oh, an imaginary jail. don't worry, they have plenty of space, there's even imaginary jail planets on cartoon network. I'd love to chat with you about reality-based politics when you get back to reality.

Don't wanna talk about your idea being discriminatory and disenfranchising... which is illegal thus far? Is that reality enough?

I bet you want religion taught in schools, too.

I don't know how it would be fairly determined, though we don't allow many ex-cons to vote, but I figure most voters are like a small pet or child. I can be fond of them, but i wouldn't want them deciding much of anything of importance. There's plenty recent history demonstrating how imbecilic the average voter is.

That is a low blow my left wing friend........The only people who would want religion taught in public schools are your radical Islamic friends.

I have seen the man on the street interviews where the person was asked to identify the candidate and the person could not do it. That kind of a voter is a danger to this country... I have also seen cases where the person interviewed had no clue where the candidate stood on the issues..........It is obvious those things mean nothing to you.

LOL dude. With enough video editing and interviews, I can make anyone look like an idiot.

Anyone willingly ignorant enough to think that someone else should decide if they are willingly ignorant enough to be excluded to vote should be excluded from voting.

Thank you for your refreshing honesty in expressing your differing opinion. So who gets to be the person to decide who is willfully ignorant enough to be sure enough that willful ignorance exists or that it's damaging to America to vote with willful ignorance or that preventing that damage would protect America? You? Do you hope as our new dictator, to have a poll and then deny the voting rights of everyone who disagrees with you?

Should willfully ignorant people be allowed to vote? Or should voter be required to document that they have done a reasonable effort at researching candidates and issues to obtain a voter I.D.? Should equal use of both Democrat and Republican news sources be part of the definition of reasonable effort? Should people who are unemployed have to spend more time on research than the employed, to qualify as a reasonable effort? with each person's search documentation attached to their identity and subject to a challenge, and the way they voted remaining anonymous? Should we make it easier to obtain voter I.D. than it presently is, by eliminating proof of current residence as a requirement, which poses an unnecessary hardship on the poor and minorities?

The problem with qualifying who can vote in such a manner is determining where to draw that line, and determining who is qualified to draw it. Whoever assumes the role of picking out who gets to vote is now endowed with a great deal of power. They can essentially decide elections.

Would you trust anyone with that kind of power? What happens when it becomes corrupt?

Like they say, power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely...

the votes would still be anonymous, and the test would be a blind test, the tester wouldn't know which way the testee was going to vote, only how sincere an effort the person made to inform themselves before the election. but you wouldn't want the American people to have the power to put the vote in the hands of people who care about America, that would be pretty damn close to the American people having absolute power. You want to keep America pure and innocent as children by keeping Americans as powerless as children. That's just peachy.

Don't want to disappoint ya, but I just looked and I happen to have a right wing to go along with my left wing. That makes me an independent wing.

I don't want teachers in any type of school teaching religious values...period. I'd prefer all schools to be secular. But...we have a First Amendment....thank goodness. I would have never sent my children to a sect school...even if that was all that existed.

I don't want teachers defining a test to be given to determine who votes and who doesn't. Apparently AmericanWoman76 wouldn't at all mind...and would in fact advocate allowing "private school teachers" control who votes.

Back to you my find right wing friend...

I persoanlly think something could be devised like the quiz people get to get their citizenship........My wife is Korean and spoke very little English but when she took her test for citizenship she aced it....she was so proud we framed it and it still hangs over our fireplace.....

That's awesome, congrats to your wife and to you for landing an awesome wife! but no, the vast majority of Americans would be stuck voteless for years, if they had to pass a citizenship test to vote. the test would have to be a simple measurement of having made a reasonable effort to learn from multiple sources (to prevent bias) on the issues and candidates they're currently voting on.

You do know those things happen in public schools right. There have been many incidents of teachers trying to sway their students to vote or back Obama.......... Like I said earlier I went to Catholic School and so did my 4 children and I am the only one who did not get a college degree.............I rectified that when I retired from the Navy and now have a BS,

Oh and sorry if I offended you.......

THank you.........No, no not a citizenship test just a basic quiz...For example
:

1. what is the name of the 2 major partys in this country?

2. Who are the Candidates for the 2 parties?

Something really basic...........If someone could not read it would be given to them orally.

not THAT basic, all the most willfully ignorant persons "know" that democrat/republican (choose one) are the bad guys, republican/democrat (choose one) are the bad guys, vote for everyone with democrat/republican (choose one) next to their names and vote the way democrat/republican (choose one) blogs say to vote, or else (insert sci-fi horror here), this kind of thinking is what needs to be screened out. they need to demonstrate knowing stuff about the candidates and issues, THE OPPOSITE OF "which team they're rooting for" democrat/republican (choose one)

You would be surprised how many people can't answer those questions...I watch Letterman sometimes and he would send people out on the street and ask really simple things and the people could not answer them. I know it sounds crazy but its true..........

Yes. Allowing voting to be strictly dominated by highly politicized voters is not an accurate reflection of the country.

The voting age could be lowered to 8, and a simple test could still find better voters than the average person who's 18 years and up and born in America. I'm not advocating that, I'm just making an observation.

I see it 5-4 Conservative right now as Kennedy usually votes with the Conservatives. you lose again.

If it were 5-4 right now Navy....it would have already happened. Conservatives were hoping to stack the court with at least 1 more right-wing activist. Obama's re-election ensured that wouldn't happen. And it isn't going to get any better for you. Hilary's election will cause you guys to go backwards on your efforts to change the court.

That isn't true at all. The radical right-wing so-called "Christians"/evangelicals have been trying to push their perverted brand of Christianity into the public arena including schools for the past several decades.
